I believe they are Aisin transmissions and made in Japan - the manuals at least. The autos are also Aisin but made in the US I believe. I might be making this shit up though.

Purchased my first Taco earlier this month, MT of course. I'm coming from a MT 2012 Wrangler, that German tranny was great, shift so well.

    Manuals for life!

The MTs for gen 3s are made in Thailand. Saw it written on a sticker that was on the rear driver side window of my Taco, wish I took a picture of it prior to dealer prep.

that's a common noise with these transmissions, nothing wrong with it, probably your new one will sound the same.

I did this in the 91 & 03 rangers I owned but the 2016 MTs have a hill start assist (it holds the brake for a couple secs so you can hit the gas). Makes starting on a hill a breeze.

I want to do the same thing as u. trade my 16 OR M/T for a cement M/T pro I found in Kentucky for msrp. I love this idea and my birthday is a few days away. My wife however does not like this idea at all, and completely ignores my when I try to talk to her about it. Her and all her damn sense.:frusty:

    Get the TRD pro
    Your life

My friend had a tundra Pro in cement
Traded it in a Tacoma pro cement

His wife didn't even notice trucks weren't same

I took my new Pro over to their house for dinner and she says "Kens truck looks similar size like yours"

She had no clue he went from Tundra to Tacoma

My wife and I currently own 7 vehicles if you include motorcycles, and not an auto trans in the bunch.
It was actually a little bit of a wait for my dealer to find me an SR 4x4 with a stick. Worth it.

I also came from a 12 Wrangler MT. I liked mine except 3rd had a quirk. Unless you held the stick up into third when you were down shifting it would kick out.

That 3.6 Pentastar is a sweet engine for a jeep. Second only to the mighty 4.0 straight 6.

My Xterra did the same thing, hold against 3rd and it would kick out.

That's interesting. I never experience the kick out.

Off topic, but I think that tranny was from Benz, a leftover from the DiamlerChrysler marriage.

Anybody have a good recommendation for the best quality MT transmission fluid. I'm approaching 25k and would like to switch it out for something high quality. I am specifically looking for something that will work well at extreme cold Temps as we get well below zero here during the winter.

When I replaced mine I did a lot of research and settled on Redline MT-90. I can't say from 1st hand experience that it's better than anything else because it's only been in my transmission for about 500 miles but everybody speaks highly of it.
