Not sure if this will make sense to anybody but I bought a 2016 SR5 auto in September - traded it today to for a 2017 sport manual. I knew there was no way I could spend years driving an auto - it was sucking the life out of me...

Short answer - I absolutely love it.

Long answer - I traded a 2014 Wrangler (MT) and a half mile after I drove the SR5 off the lot I was questioning my decision. So after months of going back and forth in my head, (and even sitting down with the original dealer to work through the numbers for a trade), yesterday I decided just to go to another dealer and go for a test drive. I assumed I would just "get over it" once I actually got behind the wheel - because let's face it, it was going to be a financial hit no matter where I went.

The problem was it took exactly 200yards of driving before I knew I had to make the swap. I'm probably in the hole by $2k because of the sales tax laws in RI (no allowance on trade-in vehicles when buying a truck...), but otherwise I'm happy with the price and deal (it helps to have a very understanding wife). The whole process, test drive and negotiating, was about 45mins. But I'm truly happy with the truck now and I was definitely not happy with the auto.

I did a similar thing. I badly needed a new vehicle in mid 2015 and really wanted a new Tacoma but was too impatient to wait for them to arrive at dealers. Plus I wanted a very specific one which would have taken forever to get. I decided to pass on the Tacoma and I bought a RAM 1500. It was a nice truck, but once the Tacomas started coming out, I regretted not waiting. I held on to the RAM for a year until I saw the exact Taco I wanted pop up at a local dealer. I traded the RAM for my 2017 BBP Sport M/T 4x4 and haven't looked back! I love it so much more than the RAM.

Life is too short to have to deal with something that you hate on a daily basis. Sure you took a hit on trade in, but in two years will you really notice it? I guarantee you'll remember what driving the auto was like and how much fun driving the manual is and know you made the right decision.

I appreciate the support for the trade, makes me feel less guilty about being an impulsive idiot.

BTW, would that TRD knob fit a 2017? That's pretty cool...
