Everyone go check out this post. Good stuff. I'm due for a fluid change 30,000 miles on my truck.

I have had my Mustang since 1998 and on occasion I powershift it when in a hurry (Don't lift off the gas and slam the next gear), don't do it everytime I drive it but never had a problem, you are not gonna hurt anything by blipping the throttle on your Tacoma.

Very interesting thread: single clutch vs double clutch rev match downshifting. Put me in the single clutch camp. My view is do what feels comfortable for you. My SWAG is SC may increase wear on the synchros over x million shift cycles. By that time, I think I will have other more pressing problems to worry about.
One thing I am curious about: has anyone been able to heel toe their Tacoma? This vehicle has got to have the most inconvenient pedal arrangement of any I have driven, like it was designed that way.

    Thanks for the kind words.

As a general update the truck shifts MUCH smoother for me now. 1 to 2 was particularly clunky before hand but it's got much more positive engagement now. 2 to 3 was not great as well but not nearly as bad. Wishing I had done this sooner!

    So first-world problems...

Yesterday while driving work I pushed in my clutch and felt my knee pop. The remainder of the ride didn't feel great, but once I got to work my knee felt fine.

Fast forward 24 hours... I'm on my way home before I head to the gym. Knee feels a little stiff. Get to the gym and hop on the treadmill. Friggin knee hurts. Fortunately it worked itself out after a 10th of a mile. Did legs today, knee feels great. Drove home no problems.

    Felt like an idiot.

Gotta get that clutch leg back up to fighting strength if you're gonna be double clutching so much

Personally, I think this issue could have been mitigated if you 'single' clutched AND blip'd the gas a tad...whilst singing Oklahoma show toons!

Revving the engine with the clutch depressed issue: Dannyblues reporting back after research.

It is not good to rev the engine with the clutch disengaged as it puts extra wear and stress on the pressure plate throw out bearing that is moved by the clutch fork to engage/ disengage the clutch.

That's why we manual drivers also always pull the shifter into neutral at a long stop light- to take wear off the throw out bearing- ( not to give your left leg a rest!)

And let this be the end of this discussion please. Drive anyway you like. It's your Tacoma.

Personally I pull the shifter into neutral at long stop lights with clutch out. I also occasionally perform a correctly executed double clutch shift technique when necessary usually going down a deep incline.

Since today's vehicles are fully synchronized trannys excluding first and reverse in general none
other than normal shifting is required.

Thanks for the posts even the contradictions. But remember let us all disagree agreeably. Dannyblues

On 3/20/17 I was informed and corrected that in fact the fully synchronized six speed transmission on the 2016 Tacoma IS also synchronized. I apologize for posting incorrect information regarding that one statement. I stand corrected.

Old dogs can learn new tricks, see? Dannyblues

Throw out bearing upgrade for the win. Thanks again URD.

I know you and I have differed in opinion and I accept the truth that I am in fact a dinosaur. But I have a wealth of personal experience at my age though some of it is becoming outdated.

I'm proud of any young people who still opt for the manual transmissions even though today's automatics are often rated as faster and get better mpg. Though I'd hate to pay to replace one!!

Even at the car wash I usually have to drive it in myself as nobody there under 50 can drive a stick save a few Latinos who love their rice rockets. Dannyblues
