I have not got to drive my 17 as its not in yet but unless the trans changed dramatically then you are not doing something right. I have had 2 2nd gens in the last 10 years and never once got in reverse by mistake, there is a pretty strong detent that requires a pretty good shove.

I have had this conversation with others before, if it's my fault, then it is. But that's why I adjusted my shifting style and go to 2nd, then 1st. I don't hit r by accident then. Some days getting into r does take some strength, other days it seems like melted butter.

Looks old school great. The idiots who steal cars don't usually know how to drive a manual. Yours screams manual shift unlike the OEM Dannyblues

Now that's a truck!!! It's obviously not the original color. I don't remember that color as stock on a truck years ago. 67 GTO maybe yes or close color anyway.
    But the trucks a gem
    HOWEVER:

That enormous garage or barn ? of yours really needs some organization and cleaning up.
But maybe that would spoil the look. It's like looking at a great old barn find.

When my dad and I rebuilt the truck as a high schooler back between 1998 and 2001, the goal was to keep it all stock except for the color, which is called Dodge Viper Pearl and the interior is black/Ford Dove Gray. It was my daily driver in high school and college.

The shed isn't mine; its a buddy's who is going to put a transmission in it. I could hardly drive it since 2005 when gas prices jumped, and then when the economy went in the toilet in 2007 I couldn't give the thing away. I finally was comfortable enough financially (and adult enough) to drag it out after so many years and play with it again but the tranny was locked up. So now it sits at his house waiting on him!

A bunch of us have done it in the 3rd Gen by accident. Shifting into reverse really takes no more effort than shifting into any other gear. Its a complete new tranny from the 2nd Gen. The only thing that saved me from slamming into the car behind me at a traffic light was the beep that goes off to alert you that the rear camera is on.

I haven't had this problem at all... It takes quite a bit of force to put it in reverse... pulling "up" is an odd movement anyway.

that just happened to me for the first time a couple days ago. freaked me out a bit but i've been trying a super heavyweight shift knob and i think that's mainly why i didn't even notice it, because it didn't take any real force from me to enter R. the heavy knob did it.

It will happen to you too, the R detent in the 3rd gen tranny isn't that strong.

As discussed, it's more likely to happen when you're sitting in traffic in neutral (clutch out). When it's time to go, you can easily get too far over to the left. I've made it a habit to go into second and then straight up into first.

I would have preferred a proper lockout on this tranny, but meh.

Really? Must be a third gen thing, reverse is a bitch to get in on my 2nd gen. The speed shifter actually made it worse to get in. The last time I had the truck valeted they had to send a runner back asking how to get it in reverse, came out and the guy had two hands trying to tug it over. I know its not THAT hard, but jeez dude. Nowadays there's no way in hell I'm letting some minimum wage valet kid drive my truck lol.

Even last time, we were staying at a hotel for my sister in laws wedding, when I went to pick the truck up (I guess they were parking in a secure parking garage like a block away) I literally heard my truck peeling out in the garage, and then saw the dude gunning it light to light until he turned on to the street I was on and then he pulled up all nice like in front of me, except I could smell the tires AND my clutch. I just looked at him and said "Have fun?" And he got super guilty looking and just mumbled something and ran off. I was slightly miffed but not really one of those complainer types unless shit is broken.

I have a '17 MT Sport. All MT's have 4.30. They AT's do not regardless of trim level.
