A long, long time ago, before the internet, all the Toyotas I owned, as well as friends and family, had that squeaky clutch. It wasn't a big deal for us. Corporate has had over 40 yrs to fix it and they never have. Is it a big deal for me today? No. Could it turn into a problem? Don't know, especially since a lot of metal parts in the clutch linkage have been replaced by plastic in the name of the bottom line and fuel efficiency.

I'd downshift to 1st. 1200 rpm isn't enough if you need acceleration, 2000 rpm minimum at low speed. I don't believe there's anything wrong with your truck, mine is the same.

My 5 speed doesn't want to go into 1st gear when moving unless I double clutch. Don't have to match rpm exactly just bump it up.

I believe it's a pollution control thing, if the throttle snaps shut quickly it causes more pollution. Back in the carburetor days throttles had a damper to keep them from closing quickly.

Never even heard of one of those. I guess it was high tech at the time. At least the column shift let you enjoy the benefits of a full front bench seat. Great for the additional person capacity in front but even better for snuggling with your girl as you drive ( hence the expression of the two headed driver ). Those were the days. You didn't even have to get her to take the leap in trust to jump over into the back seat!! Dannyblues

Wow that's a long time for a company like Toyota to eliminate an annoying problem. I doubt it requires more than a dab of grease in the right spot to eliminate it too. I wonder what past owners have done?? You know way back when cars were so noisey that a small clutch squeak was probably not even noticeable. But things like whistling fly windows were annoying and near impossibility to correct and stay corrected for any length of time. Dannyblues

I plan on hitting the new 17 with disc brake grease before it ever has a chance to start that noise!

That's funny ( to me, not your knuckles! ).
My last vehicle that didn't have the same e brake location as my new 2016 TRD was a 1969 Buick Le Sabre. It had a left foot actuated foot peddle to push down and engage it with a T handle release hand pull.
The old 51 Merc and I think my 57 Chevy and most other cars I've owned in the past had the T handle pull and release on the left side by the drivers leg if I remember correctly. Since everything I owned back then were automatics I only relied on park especially because it was in advisable to use the e brake in winter. I've been under one of my old card more than once with a butane torch trying to warm up and free a frozen emergency brake on the rear wheels.

Sounds like a good idea. But lube where? At the connection inside ? I guess I'd have to assume the squeak is inside maybe where the clutch peddle attaches to the next linkage ? Good luck. Thankfully I don't have that problem.

I remember a 67 GTO with tri power carbs. It was a cream colored convertible. I was surprised that a convertible had no wind noise when closed that cold winter night a friends dad owned and was driving us somewhere. It was brand new. Incredibly quiet. Barely a rumble from the stock dual exhaust ( but we were riding locally in a neighborhood). The only sound was a small squeak each time the clutch was depressed. I liked it as I knew it meant a gear change. So quiet and smooth. I'm sure on the track it was loud and fast. Dannyblues

I bought my 2016 TRD early last July. No noises at all anywhere. But I did have the stuck shifter problem. Resolved now. At 9 months and 12,000 miles no noise anywhere. Except in the morning mostly when at idle; noisey engine. Sounds like a bad lifter.

I've been told that bad lifter sound is from the injector pump and is a typical sound on all Atkinson/ Otto engines. Though I did drive one loaner automatic TRD that didn't have that bad lifter sound I was concerned at first until I heard it was normal.

So, here's a question I'll ask here rather than start a new thread about...cuz, I'm stealthy about my newness on the forum.

I've read extensively in TW about the squeaky clutch deal...i even watched the video, its great...the ups, the down...the Denouement even.

    So...

Do any of you have lateral movement at the pedal...like just rest your toe on it and wiggle side to side...mebbe 3/4" in play or so?

Doesn't bug me, just wondering if it's a common thing or am I gonna be gear floating home one day?

    Dankje

first use of "Denouement" on TW... you get the daily biscuit.

mine has a bit of lateral play, maybe 1/8"at most, probably less than 1/8"actually. but i still hate it. if there was an aftermarket clutch pedal assembly with quality built in i would have already bought it.

Crap dood, ya made me search...you're right lmao...worth more than a biscuit methinks, especially a daily one...I counter haggle with a biscuit, a million bucks, and the letter M stricken from the English language

Ya, can't say I hate it per se, but I DID notice it

Every once in a while, under a lot of use (stoopid Toronto light synchronization) I'll get a slight, weak creak, not squeak, and absolutely not like buddy arc welder's video of "the squeak"
