I will say a few months ago someone came through and robbed all the cars on the ferry I was taking. All they did was jump in, check for sunglasses in sunglasses holders, and move on. The ONE time I really could have used crawl control...

Let's be honest, I think we all got manuals so we could watch @nevadabugle get drunk on Fridays.

    Which hasn't happened lately...

I think I am a little over 1300 Miles now too, its really a very nice truck with lots to like and averaging about 20MPG! I unfortunately have the Rear Diff Howl but thankfully so far it has not gotten any louder, otherwise my only real complaint is the lack of low end torque.

We need to remember that there now generations of drivers that only know vehicles with automatics and view manuals like black and white TV, hand-crank windows etc. Admittedly, automatics have become much better than the 'slushboxes' of yesteryear. Manuals, to many, are viewed as 'quaint' or old-school. I recall taking my Taco in for service not long ago and having the sign-in person in the service department ask me to move the vehicle - Noticing that she was moving the other vehicles, I asked how-come. She blushed and admitted she did not know how to drive one. Some view Manual's as a theft prevention device. You will often hear of a wood-be car thief that manages to get a half block away and gives up for the same reasons. Those of us that are older have the advantage of having lived with both types of transmissions and can more objectively compare them. Then there are those in the middle - They have become used to early generation automatics that were controlled by throttle position and engine vacuum and progressively shifted up as you increased speed etc. You give these folks a new, computer controlled, transmission and they immediately pine for the 'old days' This is why vehicles with CVT's will try and reproduce the feeling of step-shifts. All to appease the driver. Driving a manual, especially off road, requires that you use the computer - between your ears. If your software is not up to the task - Some learning is required. You will discover that with experience, the old fashioned manual gear-box can be quite rewarding...Not to mention very enjoyable for the simple reason that you are not assigning responsibilities to a bunch of hydraulics and computers. - Clay (Enjoying his 2016 Taco MT)

How much am I looking at to get the throwout bearing replaced? The chirping is getting worse and the truck is finally not the only vehicle in the household, so I can take it in for a lengthy period.

Our first Toyota truck was a 1987 2.4L Pickup with 4 speed MT 2WD. The Tacoma we currently own is a 2003 2.4L with 5 speed MT 2WD. Both Great pickups!!!! Never had any transmission or differential issues with either truck. Running Red Line lube in the tranny and differential on the 2003.

Thinking about replacing our 2003 Tacoma with a 2018 Tacoma 3.5L with 6 speed MT 2WD. Our 4WD truck is a Tundra.

Reading about 3rd Gen differential howl, has Toyota corrected the howl problem?

    Thanks,
