Gotcha. I'm still getting used to this truck after coming from an I-6 Cherokee and the lack of low end torque is definitely a thing. I've felt like I'm lugging it a bit in 4-HI and 1st gear sometimes when going pretty slow up short steep sections and considered going to 4-LO but haven't really used it except very briefly. Maybe I should be spending time in 4-LO and 2nd... I think you just need to find a way to test drive it in the situations you are concerned about, everybody's perceptions are subjective.

Love my truck. It has some quirks but so have all of my 4 Toyota trucks.

so far i can work with these quirks too, and the driving has been fantastic since getting her setup right.

and now I'm getting my stereo installed as we speak, so next month's road trip to CO will be banging.

I like the power delivery. You have to be exact in where you shift and accelerate. But if you find that sweet spot it's a lot of fun, and very smooth.

My 04 has always been like that for what it's worth...no matter what fluid I have in there. I have heard that the shifter bushing can go bad and make it harder to get into certain gears.

If you are trying to get into 1st over about 4-5 mph, you gotta bump the revs a little bit and apply light pressure to get it to go in smooth. Otherwise it will feel like it is fighting you. I haven't had any problems with reverse, but others here say reverse is troublesome for them.

When the tech at the dealer had to drive my truck, he would just push the clutch in and jam it into 1st at like 10 mph when coming to a stop. I was sitting in the passenger seat like o_O

I haven't had any major issues with first or reverse but when it acts tough to get into gear I just hold it there for a second or two and it seems to slip right in. I never use first unless I am at a dead stop.

ugh...precisely why I rarely let anyone drive my truck if I can help it. I'll park a mile away rather than let a valet get anywhere near my rig.

Whenever I drop it off at Toyota I hand them the keys then quickly run inside to avoid having to hear the kid inevitably burn the clutch and grind the gears. My poor baby :(

Not to mention, the service guys always see the boost gauge on my dash and get all excited asking me about it. I always make note of my exact mileage lol.

not a bad problem to have... with a 3rd gen V6 i just remove the Pedal Commander and have very little to worry about (if you drive a stock 3rd gen with a stick you'll know what i mean).

I'm 0/2 with valets. They got in my truck each time and he said "sir can you please park it for me?" and let me valet my car for free! Best of both worlds...

Not sure if this has been discussed but while I was in the clutch pedal area yesterday applying some brake grease in the move able joints, I noticed the small button/switch that must be depressed in order for the car to start. Has anyone here taped or pinned it down to avoid having to clutch in to start the truck? I always put my truck in neutral and handbrake anyways but just curious...

Not me, nor would I want to. I tend to leave my truck in gear when parked and wouldn't to start the truck and forget to put it in neutral.

In my old Honda Accord that switch had a fuse as part of the system. Whenever I parked the car in an area I wasn't terribly fond of, I would quickly pull the fuse that was in that circuit and replace it with a blown fuse. Obviously it's not going to stop a lot of thieves, but it was a start.

That just gave me an idea. If you had to leave your manual overnight somewhere a bit sketchy, I bet you could easily put a little wooden block under the carpet where the clutch is and prevent anyone from starting the truck....im going to test this idea and see if it works.

    Yep.

They used to sell an anti-theft thing that locked out the brake pedal on autos and the clutch on manuals.

Toyota's cancel switch would defeat that. The only way around it would be to unplug the switch and blank off the switch in the panel.
