I'll typically hang around 2100 rpm, but it really depends. I just try and cruise with minimal strain on the motor, so sometimes it's as high as 2500, depending on the terrain.

Has anyone experienced a whistling noise when accelerating in 3rd gear up to 35 mph? No, I don't think this is the LCA noise.

This came on suddenly and was very easy to hear over quiet music and went away as soon I let off throttle.

    The what?

I've been shifting around 3.5K-4K. Burns a lot of gas but the truck drives better.

I rarely even use 5th gear, usually go from 4th to 6th.

I can only do 6th on open road. Usually in 5th due to changing freeway conditions/traffic.

Yes I know exactly what you are talking about. Loud high pitched whistle sounds like it is coming from the engine bay. Doesn't happen often but has usually occurred when I'm trying to accelerate hard up a highway on ramp for example. No clue what it is. I know you say 3rd gear but I think it has happened to me in 2nd too.

Yep. I thought it was the rear end but the more I have listened it definitely comes from the front of the truck.

Ok. Had the truck almost two weeks and just trying to get a handle on this manual tranny. Should I be hearing a bit of noise from tranny while shifting. I seam to get a hollow knock or small rattle every time I shift 1st through third most notable. Almost sounds empty. I know that the autos had low fluid issues. Any one here have low fluid on manuals. Just want to make sure these noises are normal. I know my 89 Toyota makes small noises while moving through gears but nothing like this. Thanks for the input.

Mine makes noise and 3rd gear especially is pretty "notchy" to the point where I can hear it click/clunk into gear

Got this in mine as well. It's not like a grinding feel as if you don't have the clutch in, but just a clunky feel. Usually get it going into 2nd and 3rd. Think I'm going to swap out the gear oil and see if that helps any.

So mine is pretty smooth at the stick. It just makes this noise when depressing the clutch in and out. It's not hard to move the gears.

What kind of noise is it. Is it like a spinning bearing type sound or more of a quick chatter when the clutch disc separates?

More like the latter. It sounds like things are engaging which would make since. Just want to see off others here it too. Clutch in shift acceleration clutch out in that movement is where the noise occurs.

I get those noises all the time too. Most of the time I don't care but If I slow down my shifting as in waiting a second or two before pressing clutch somewhat slow I avoid those noises.
