Like...first week of owning the truck, swapped to this. Might need to pull the handle off soon and give it a good scrub lol, but love every second of it

Saw it a buddies truck a while back, figured it was worth the $30 or so to find out if I liked it. Plus it was a "Hurst Core Short Shifter" so I figured I might as well match the handle to it. I love it alot more than a ball shifter. Definitely gives me something more to grip when I'm slamming through gears (beating third gens LMAO)

I went from a 2010 5-speed to a 2016 6-speed....After getting used to the fact that reverse is now 6th...I was OK. As for smoothness - That got better with time (I have 31K on it now). I am not in favor of the way they handled reverse ...(Just spring tension) all too easy to put it in reverse when you are looking for first. My Camry manual has a superior system - A ring on the shift lever that you have to pull up with your fingers to get it into reverse - Too bad they did not do that with the Taco - Just VERY thankful I did not get the automatic.

It takes considerably more effort to put the 6-spd into reverse than 1st on a 2nd gen. It would be highly unlikely someone could accidentally go from 2nd to reverse while driving.

Maybe I should have been more clear ....My issue with Reverse is when you are - STOPPED - It's very easy to ignore the spring tension and the little beep and slide it into reverse. The big sign that you did it wrong is the backup camera display tells you that if you let the clutch out you are going to back up. I had that happen a couple of times when I first got it. My solution to making sure that this is not an issue is to, when stopped, always shift to 2nd and THEN to 1st. If I didn't have the Camry with a manual I would have not known that Toyota had a better, more positive, means of dealing with the issue. You are not likely to find reverse if you are in motion and downshifting from 2nd to 1st as that's a straight forward motion of the stick...The issue is when you are pulling the stick to the left and then up, you can easily pull it left too far.

I understood what you said. I was just saying on the 2nd gens, even while stopped, it's difficult to mistake reverse for 1st. I guess Toyota didn't carry this over to the 3rd gens.

I haven't once mistaken reverse for 1st in any situation. You should be more relaxed when selecting your gears.

Mine is plenty difficult to put in Reverse and I've never come close to accidentally engaging it instead of 1st Gear in any of my 2nd or 3rd Gens.

when your shift knob is 733g it can have a mind of its own if your aim isn't damn perfect. and you can be totally chill while that's happening.

Beautiful. I love it. Nothing like being able to fully grab that hand and pull it down for those fast shifts.
