Anyone getting this clanking on a third gen, or notice this slop in the rear diff?

I also have this clank and play in the rear gearing. I get a clank over bumps out of gear and while in gear, and a light clunk when shifting into my lower gears.

Dealer thought it was unusual and called Toyota who gave the standard normal response. I never buy that line after 2 new Toyota's I owned before this required major repairs ($3k+ each) to repair conditions Toyota told me were normal before they actually failed.

I get clanks too over speed bumps. Feels like something heavy hanging underneath the truck. I also get jerks when I shift from 1 to 2.

I confirmed as have others that it is coming from a significant amount of slop in the rear diff. I believe we are seeing differentials that are not preloaded properly, or that weren't set up with the right lashing.

I'm going back to Toyota within two weeks as this last service appointment was a total joke.

Something I'm getting used to with them.

    I have a 2016 dcsb manual and a LG G5.

I usually park in reverse with the hand brake engaged.

Anybody have issues with their phone not hooking up to Bluetooth while starting their truck in reverse (backup camera comes up first) with the clutch pushed in? It seems to work fine while starting it up in neutral/gear with the clutch pushed in (startup/ok screen comes up first).

It feels like the radio misses the opportunity to connect, when it is first powered on, but as soon as I take it out of reverse it goes to the startup/ok screen and still doesn't connect. I then turn my Bluetooth off and back on, on my phone, and it will then connect.

Does anyone know if it's bad to let weight of the truck sit on the transmission. I took the handbrake off on my angled driveway, felt the car roll back slightly and stop. I thought I was holding the brake but it was actually the clutch barely pressed and being held by 1st.

Between 15-25 degrees. I just remembered I had the wheel chocks set by hand too.

In the long run I would think anything over 20-25 would be extreme to not use the e brake (or chock the tires if your e brake is broke - like my old ranger was. I kept a stick in the truck to press the brake pedal long enough until I could get the blocks in place). I was also taught to put it in the gear opposite of gravity travel depending on which way was up (reverse if grille is down, 1st if grille is up) and/or to point the front tires into a curb.

But if it only happened that one time, I think you'll be ok.

I edited my first post. It was actually more like 15-25 and I remembered that I had the wheel chocks set. When I tried to pull them, they were wedged under the tires so they may have kept some weight off the tranny. And I do set the parking brake first, then engine off, then 1st gear.

My wife hates Automatics too - (when we got married 37 years ago she was driving a Mustang with 4 on the floor) We presently have a 2010 Camry with a 6 Speed Manual (took us 4 months to get it) ...Now with only 39,000 on it - She has fallen in love with a 4Runner and is bummed that it only comes with an Automatic. Anyone want my Camry?

Wow I didn't know you could still get a Camry with a manual.

Not anymore for 2018. I have a cousin that works at a dealership and he says they will rerelease a manual for 2019 but don't take my word for it.

I believe that 2010 was the last year - Ours is an LE...They may have offered the SE's in a manual a bit longer. Problem is fewer people know how to drive them and the makers would probably like to not make two models of the same car. I know ours was part of a production run on manuals and was a special order. A lot of people are shocked when the see it. It's a 4cyl - Plenty of power and fantastic mileage. Will miss the mileage and the manual...Mama wants to sit higher - Looks like a 4R will soon be in the garage.

How strong do you guys think the drivetrain and engine components are on this truck. I consider myself a respectable shifter but like most of you know already, the 1 to 2 shift sucks sometimes. Was turning right at 9mph and shifted to second and the bumpy road caused me release the clutch a little fast and shook the truck up a little more than I would have liked. Since my truck is so new I like to baby it and it pisses me off when I mess up a shift occasionally.

Lol Dood...shifting a manual tranny is like landing a plane. No one is ever around when ya grease it onto the Tarmac, but it seems like when ya flub it a little someone is always around to notice.

I wouldn't sweat a ruff clutch release due to bumps as being hard on the drivetrain...have a little fun and use the no clutch to start button with it in gear and no clutch. Do it in an empty parking lot at first so you have time to react to the unknown if you haven't done such a thing before.

well, when they spec the parts for mass manufacture, they don't think about your kind. they think about the huge numbers of horrible drivers who won't learn anything and don't care ever, and the warranty that backs their vehicles. you are thinking too much about this. you'll be fine. oh, and lol.
