    My daily driver transmission experiences:

    4 spd Auto (slipped)
4 spd Auto (torque converter locked too soon, needed more gears)
    6 spd Manual (sweetness)
6 spd Auto (was nice for downhill downshifts, torque converter never locked up, always searching for gears)
    6 spd Manual (sweetness)
5 spd Manual (good enough, durable)

Manuals are great for driver control...
-engine braking for maneuvering in traffic
-engine braking for downhill (easier on brakes)
-hold a gear for up hill acceleration

    Durability and reliability
-mechanical, no computer control or tuning
-put power to the ground is control via accelerator or clutch, no torque converter

My buddy just picked up a Hellcat Challenger a couple weeks ago and thankfully chose a 6 Speed instead of the automatic.

I think maual trans vehicles are alot less likely to get stolen today, simply because alot of people don't know how to stir a set of gears. I recently brought my old truck in for an inspection sticker, the kid took one look at the floor shift and shook his head. I ended up pulling the truck into the inspection bay and backing it out for him.

True story: Back when I delivered pizzas, a coworker had a stick shift regular cab ranger. He was leaving a gas station at 1am, stopped in the alley exit and lit a cigarette before pulling onto the main road. 3 guys ran up and yanked him out of his truck and piled into his. After a few gear grinds and stalling it, they switched drivers. Driver #2 tried, and couldnt get the truck to move. Ultimately, they all piled back out, threw his keys at him and stole his wallet and cell phone and took off on foot.

I couldn't imagine heading down the mountain passes without being able to lock into 2nd or 3rd gear.

I live part-way up a canyon, and every busy ski day I can smell all the brakes as no-one knows how to downshift in their autos.

Here's a question: How many people do you know and trust to drive your manual Tacoma?

For me the list is actually pretty long and it's made up of the same people I would trust with anything else I own. Part of that is trusting that if they don't know what they're doing, they won't even turn the key in the first place.

Just bought a 16 DCSB Sport, Manual- had to order it. LOVE the manual transmission on this truck - really nicely refined. It's still a truck MT, but that's what I wanted. The 16 auto is a very, very nice transmission (especially with the sport mode, etc.) but I just really enjoy shifting and my sense is that the MT greatly reduces the repetitive shifting at the high-end on the high-way. Put it in 6th (or 5th) and it stays there even with minor changes in acceleration. Got about 200 miles so far - loving it.

Apparently I am the 1st lady to speak up, but I love a Manual. Most likely because I'm from "the middle of nowhere" and grew up hauling livestock. All my vehicles have been MTs up until I purchased my commuter car in 2011 (I was to impatient to wait for a manual). Now 4 years later, I'm "patiently" waiting for my new Taco to get to Colorado (yes I learned my lesson)! I personally do not understand the 'traffic complaint'. I drive in traffic all the time with the 1999 Tacoma (MT) w/ 318K on it and majority of the time I coast in 1st gear never even stepping on the clutch and if I do, it's so 2nd nature that it's just like an auto to me! Live on manual trannys!

Anyone got huskies or weathertech mats for the manual tranny yet? Or a shift knob?

I agree. I've gotten a lot of compliments about my 3rd gen, in particular because it is a manual.

Every car I have owned was a manual until I purchased my last car. A 2015 Acura TLX. It only comes in automatic but at the time I convinced myself it was a good choice. I told myself the 8 speed dct was great and that the luxury features made up for the lack of a manual. One year later I'm giving the car to the wife and dropped a butt load of cash down for a manual transmission truck.

My name is dunkindonuts and I'm addicted to manual transmissions.

One, my brother, he has a WRX with a manual.

Only manual transmissions for me, I've never owned an auto.
