How do you feel driving in 5th at 40mph. In my experience the truck becomes a little unresponsive at those RPMS.

I usually do everything by feel, not necessarily paying attention to MPH with gear choices, but 5th at 40 does sound a little low.

I don't doubt the performance capabilities of the OVtune. It's really awesome and impressive to have an individual already working to make things more fun for these new truck engines.

At this point, I personally don't need any increased performance over what is already provided. I also have a 1997 F350 CC 4x4 with a 7.3 that is completely stock shy of the better shocks for hauling my slide in camper with, and a fork lift air filter. There is tons of things that are available to pretty much bolt on and plug in to wake it up, but I don't need to get anywhere fast, or haul any heavier loads than I do now.
It's only got 126k miles on it, so it's just starting to break in.

Being 46 years old, and work on my rigs myself (never taken any vehicle I've owned to a shop for any reason in my life) I feel I have basic expectations from a vehicle. I don't purchase said vehicle until I have researched, test drove and narrowed down absolutely everything that I need/want is there. Some features are just bonus items, but were not selling points. I'm simple, and have simple expectations. But... If down the road I feel I need some change or improvements, I'm all in.

Mine seems to be happy rolling 5th gear at 40. The shifts seem to naturally go there without me thinking much about it. 6th is right there at 50+.

Stubborn manual trans fan here. I tell my kids (5 & 8) that they'll learn to drive manual on my current Taco. I'm afraid no car companies will be producing anything but autos and clutchless manuals by 2025. Lazy humans...

When driving your manual you should be changing around 32
you sound like me. Except I don’t have kids. But I’m keeping this truck for my future kids to learn on. I’ll probably get a ram 2500 manual to pull the boat I want to get. (Center console Boston whaler type).

After that I’ll try and sneak in a nice sporty car in manual before they’re gone for good. I have a bit of buying to do in the next 5-10 years haha

........thats what happens when you start in 2nd gear from a stop, lol. What did you expect, for it to feel like 1st gear?

Agreed. This is how I'm feeling. I'm completely content with the current performance, but at the same time, I'm stoked that there's a sweet upgrade path for this thing.

It harkens me back to all the computers I've built that I eventually ended up overclocking and liquid cooling. Algorithm: Enjoy the damn thing as long as it's perfectly sweet. Then, slam copper down on that shit, get the non-conductive heat transferring liquid flowing, pump the voltage, and bump the clock on that bitch!

I don't know why, but this 3.5L engine eerily reminds me of the Intel Celeron 366 that you could overclock to 550 mhz with proper cooling. At that point in computer evolution, there was a Pentium chip that was much faster than the Celeron, but it cost 3X as much. You bought the 366 because you knew you had an ace in the hole.

I don't know where I'm going with this now, because I just paid an ungodly stupid amount for these sweet TRD Pro badges, this silly stitching on these "leather" headrests, this aluminum skid plate, these slightly disappointing branded fog lights, and these custom "TRD tuned", but unadjustable Fox shocks. (Come to think of it, I'm really singing the tune of all the smart mfkrs that bought the TRD OR and upgraded it to faux Pro status).

But hells bells and all's well do I love the shit out this mfkr? Yes, I do.
    Yes, I do.

Funny you mention the Intel Celeron 366. I took my first Intel sabbatical right about the same time that the Celeron was launched.
I'm not much of an actual computer guy outside of browsing and email, but I work with a lot of guys that are serious junkies that build some crazy machines for gaming. I'm more of the wrench monkey, gear head type so I maintain the actual equipment that we use to make the processors at Intel.

Anyone know if the only difference between the manual and automatic 3rd gen shift knob is the pattern on the top? The auto doesn't have a button because it has that weird pattern instead of a straight shift through the gears right?

LOL! I was at work when typing that message and then I didn't think it sent.

Change around 3200 RPM is what I do on mine. Or just listen to the engine wind up.

3000-3200 is a good spot to shift. I do find that around 3400-3500 there is a shift in power in what I presume being something to do with the two fuel systems doing something. Either switching or joining, not sure... but it definitely has a seat of the pants dyno approved boost feel to it.

    Fun stuff!

Im just gonna drop this here. My mods include an AFE intake, URD spec U exhaust, and Orange Virus Engine tune for anyone considering buying any or all of those mods this is what they sound like together. This is on the most recent 1.03 test tune for those in the know about the MT Tune development thread. All 4 windows are down in the video as well so its not as loud as one might expect

When I am on the first straight section in the video I am in 4th gear and go full throttle so you guys can hear the worst that the drone ever gets, its thoroughly tolerable in my opinion but you can be the judge

I'm in western NY. I've just about got it down now. The redlining was me, not getting my foot off the gas all the way. My Dad is coming up tomorrow for Thanksgiving so he'll help me polish my skills. My only remaining problem is parking/backing up. I get a little nervous with how fast I have to be going not to stall out. And once you start parking, there is no 'tap the brake'. You've absolutely got to commit. That's tough when the other cars in the lot are all Lexus and Mercedes!

Reversing is definitely its own skill to learn, especially in this truck with its stupidly high reverse gear. One thing I (and I believe most people do) is to do it in spurts. Slip it like you normally would to start moving, then instead of releasing the clutch push it back in. Roll out until you stop or need to stop, then do it again until you're done.
