I'm using drone mobile to start stop with phone. Unlocks locks truck with the phone. It uses the Verizon network. I have 6 spd. Manual. Compustar.

Great product. Tells voltage. Tells temp. If the truck is ready to start.

Once stopped, put truck in neutral. Put the e-brake on. Release brake and clutch. Then remove keys. Open door and get out. After a few seconds truck shuts down. Locks door and ready to go.

If you don't use your E-Brake they can 'freeze up'. AKA, broke.

Hah yeah what you're doing is perfect. My jeep's brake is so useless I just got in the habit of not using it and that carried over to my new truck.

Did anyone order the URD short shift kit on sale last week, and received a Tracking number that does not work?

Apologies if this has already been discussed elsewhere, but as I enter my second week of ownership of my (manual transmission) Tacoma: what is the point of the clutch start cancel button? I tend to use the handbrake whenever I'm stopped on a hill, to keep it from rolling backward. I see this button, and I'm thinking: why not just use the clutch with the handbrake engaged? It kinda seems like they were attempting to solve a non-existent problem.

P.s. - loving the truck. It's comfy but also trucky, if that makes any sense.

Interesting. Is there a difference between that and just cranking while in gear (like guys driving older off road vehicles might do to use the starter to pull you up an obstacle)? Does the truck just not let you crank if you haven't turned on Clutch Start Cancel?

So, that is a cool video, but why doesn't the driver just use his handbrake to stop from rolling backward? He says that its rolls "despite my best efforts", yet doesn't even engage the handbrake to prevent the roll. It just seems like a non-problem. Use the handbrake, you don't roll. I guess the button allows you to start the motor from outside the vehicle, but when does anyone do that?

Newp, that's what ALLOWS you to crank in gear. Otherwise no crankey.

IMHO, its more valuable as a reprieve should your clutch pedal or linkage breaks. See, back in the day the clutch pedal was not hydraulic, but cable. If that cable broke, and they did, you could just crank in gear to get started. Then the nanny state stepped in and said, no, you must depress clutch pedal in manual before attempting to start or no joy. Manufacturers gave us an override, and stayed within nannys good books by documenting the is a effective hill start solution. I'm glad they did.

@TeecoTaco beat me to it. Truck won't crank at all without the clutch depressed unless you click the button first.

But if that happens, aren't you seriously f***ed anyway? Like, I would maybe rethink starting the vehicle in that scenario. If you can't depress the clutch, it's going to make braking rather dicey - to say nothing of changing gears. At best, you'll stall at every stop. I find this button confounding. I will use it at every opportunity.

You don't need a clutch to shift after 1st gear if you match engine rpms and truck speed to the appropriate gear (roughly, because you've also got synchros)

For braking, you just do the same thing backwards and engine brake. Also, you can pull into neutral if you need to stop quickly. Then after turning off engine, use your old friend clutch start cancel to get going in 1st again.

You're right though, the weekend is over at that point. You're just trying to get home.

Like @BillyToy above said, you can float the gears without a clutch. I drove from 160kms (100 miles) in rush hour traffic on highway stop and go after the clutch plate exploded in my 85 Runner. The button is a saviour in that scenario. Didn't need the button in the 85

Great video explaining this feature - There are other uses that I've used in the past - 1) If you are just sitting and don't want to have to depress the clutch to start the engine...I just put it in neutral, press the button and start the truck (handy) 2) If you have a winch on the truck (or other electrical accessory) and you want to run the engine while operating power hungry items, do like the video - reach in, put it in neutral, press the button and start the truck. I'm sure others will jump in with some examples. By the way, congratulations on having the wisdom to purchase a manual. Clay

The guy in this video is awesome in several subtle ways.

That is all. Thought it needed saying.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JD1jMD_J6pU[/QUOTE]

Funny story: watching this video got me all jacked up to watch the entire and varied catalogue of You Tube "Tacoma TRD Pro Feature Focus" educational video series.

But this is it. Yep, it's the only one. So focus up on the Clutch Start Cancel button on your 40k$ truck. It's all you've got, son.

    Ouch.
