Nice! That sounds like the perfect setup. Eventually I want to get a 5VZ and swap it in to my 90 but I don't mind the 3VZ. People rip on it but its not nearly as bad as they say. A bad Toyota engine is still better than most other engines

The multi-information display in the center of the gauge cluster can be switched to metric giving you km and kph vs. mi and mph, but the analog speedometer would still have the US scale larger on top and the smaller metric numbers below.

I was looking into going the other direction so I could get a manual Subaru. It was looking like a huge pain in the arse, mainly because of emissions stuff and registration. But maybe it's easier heading North.

Go all out do a 2uz swap!

Really the only bad thing about the 3vz is it's lack of power and torque compaired to the competition and some suffered from warped heads from factory so they blew headgaskets all the time.

But as you said they're a better than average motor me thinks!

Oh I know all about the head gasket problems on these. Blew mine and cracked my heads a couple years back (my own fault) I rebuilt the engine with new heads that have an improved design, multi layer steel gaskets, and Doug Thorley long tube headers, all of which are supposed to fix the gasket problem. Should be pretty bullet proof now. Torque and power actually aren't too bad. Get some pretty nice drifts out of these things actually. Even smoked my buddy's V8 in a drag race one time lol.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a 2uz, but the engine bay is a little small for one. To swap a 5vz in you usually have to cut the hood a little or do a 1" body lift. Nice thing about a 5vz swap is the fact its the same block as the 3vz so engine mounts are the same and I can use the same bell housing.

My jetta just died at 248,000 miles, and I really need a new truck. And it really has to be a Taco with a manual, 4 wheel drive and the v6. The toyota site is worthless to tell you what's available in a manual and what's not.

Help a guy out here. Thanks so much!

I am surprised you did not get" Oh, a manual? Perhaps the service department can order a service manual for you!"

My dealer was great about it. The sales guy I had drives an manual, so he got really excited when I asked for one.

I guess I'm different than most buyers ...I do an extensive amount of research, determine what I want, then I inform the dealer (or dealers) what I want and then we deal on price. When I am happy with the financials, I have them order it. I've never driven a Toyota product I found on the lot...Even my 2010 Camry that I recently sold (replaced with a 4Runner) took me 4 months to get (they had to special order the 6 speed manual). Another thing I don't do is trade in vehicles. I always sell them outright as opposed to letting the dealer make a profit on my old ride.

    Solid practice.

I don't step foot on the dealers lot to purchase until I have a VIN for exactly what I want, negotiated price in writing, and a delivery time/date. No trading.

Sounds like a good way to go, especially if you're trying to get a MT in the trim you want.

I completely lucked out. I went and drove a TRD OR (which I really liked except for the moonroof). I told the salesperson it was a deal breaker and she casually tells me the dealership just ordered a TRD Pro in a manual for the show room.

So I guess my deal was sort of in between buying off the lot and ordering. I didn't order it, but it wasn't built yet when I first heard about it.
