Nope, you're not wrong. My 85 4Runner was same as your 93 w.r.t gear floating. But then again I had an 81 Plymouth TC3 I never used the clutch beyond initial role...both vehicles I had to figure out due to catastrophic failures (t4r clutch exploded far from home, TC3 clutch cable broke)

The newer gens dont seem as content to show us the sweet spot...couple tips to help ferret them out. Try for awhile to disengage gear without clutch on deceleration, work the throttle gently to find the RPM range where is pops out smoothly...thats the butter spot. Get that down pat first while clutching to upshift. Then when youre confy with the out of gear rpms sans clutch, work the ipshift to same rpm range but only halfcluch it, find the sweet spot. Soon after that, you'll find yourself clutching less and less.

The fly by wire skinny pedal doesn't help the cause here either on this truck...a cable does what you want it to, a wire does what it thinks you want it to do.

Lemme know how it works out

So the clutch isn't strictly necessary? That's fascinating.

The 08 is not your grandpa's truck. Use the clutch like a normal driver.

Nice! That 4Runner sport hood can't be original though, how's the fit?

Um... when driving a dump truck or semi no clutch between gears, when driving a car or pickup just use the clutch. It's really cool how the gears won't grind that way. A synchronized transmission will be difficult to shift without a clutch by design.

Nope. Haven't understood the purpose of remote starters?

Haven't had a carbureted motor for years, and no need to warm up these fuel injected motors prior to driving (shy of double digits negative temps).

What's the purpose of a remote starter?

I’ve got one. Very nice to warm up or cool off truck. Being in NC I use it to get the A/C going on hot summer days more than winter warm ups.

Comfort. Warm up or cool off vehicle before you get in and drive.

I don't have a lot of experience shifting without the clutch. Doesn't seem difficult though. Upshifting is obviously easier. The shifter will tell you when you can't or can't shift. It should glide in relatively smooth when it's ready.

Anyone else notice the shifter making a sticky vibrating sound while driving in the cold? It doesn’t happen while shifting just when cruising and the stick is doing its normal jiggle. It takes at least 45 min to go away and occurs in temps as warm as the mid-40s.

Haven't noticed anything on mine. Could be the plastic trim around the boot.
