It sneaks up on you. I was behaving just a moment before. The best part was driving through that section of road this morning and seeing my marks. I especially liked the gap between 1st and 2nd gear where I shifted.

I test drove a 2018 manual TRD OR last night. Overall I was impressed but I did notice a fair amount of rev hang. Definitely very smooth for a truck. The only thing from sealing the deal is that I have never owned a truck and have always driven manual cars so with the transmissions Im used are even more smooth.

Glad you found a Manual to test drive, these trucks are very smooth.

I agree; I also realize thats its a truck and it will not have the same feeling as the cars I am used to driving.

I've had both, numerous times...what I haven't had was a ricer MT, but it seems a lot of guys here in TW have come from that space.

It's the most fun MT truck you will find...

    Ex ricers, pls chime in

this MT truck is just a fantastic drive for the enthusiasts. it's not perfect, nothing is, but most of the quirks are easy to mod or work around, maybe except the internal trans gearing. but yes it will take some getting used to for the sports car driver.

my experience in a nutshell is that i had to slow my pace and rhythm with shifting significantly, but i could focus much much more on weight shifting, tire loading and grip, and throttle steering... which you really can't get into in a sports car on public roads. in the Tacoma i can literally drive a full day near the limit and have a blast doing it. in my last sports car i would need a track day to do even 10-20% of that kind of fun. sports cars and the like are just no fun to me on public roads since you cannot actually close in on the limits... and that's where i find what life's about.

One of my other cars in a 2016 Mustang GT manual. I used to love that car but after getting the Tacoma I'm losing my attachment to it. The mustang is an amazing car, and Lordy is it fast. But how much of its 440-ish horsepower can I actually use? I have one full throttle shift before I'm at felony speeds. I'm learning to really love the Tacoma because I can really have fun with it and not inadvertently hit 90 miles per hour.

Yup, I came out of an 89 LX 5.0 manual. Could sign my name and dot the "i" with that buggy...it was displaced by an 86 4Runner MT. Weird lol

I do however have an 86 IROC lol

that's exactly what I'm talking about. i have gone so far to build my own street car up just for my own driving fun and that kinda made the point to me. all that effort and I'm never in the gas, never hard on the brakes, never even in the realm of cornering ability. it was BORING. and stupid expensive. lose-lose although it was a fun project, one of many.

that's all been fixed with the Tacoma, and not just the fun but i am a dramatically more skilled driver as a result of developing technique to comfortably drive near the limit every day all day in all conditions. can't believe what i was missing.

I love my Mustang, have had it for 20 years, it is a great stress reliever and gets the majority of my thrashing, my Tacoma is way more refined, smooth and a great everyday truck!

I came from a 2000 WS6 6-spd. I like that the clutch in the Tacoma feels the same, and not super soft like Hondas. I just had to get used to the power to weight difference.
