Ah, then it makes sense, it's a TSS thing that let's C.C. being on while pressing clutch in. Lucky us! :bananadance:

I'd rather not have the TSS but it's nice to be able to stay in cruise as you shift into 4th or 3rd because TSS decides to slow to 35 or 40 because someone cuts you off. I also really love the brake warning that beeps way too loud, makes stop and go traffic fun when everyone speeds up and abruptly slows down, or when someone cuts you off.

Well, let's put it this way, one of the members here avoided colliding with a deer because TSS "sensed" it way before his eyes were able to see, so I am happy to have it whenever I drive in the deer area, at least it can warn me. Surprisingly I also never got false alarms since I got the truck in February, like most people here report, but mine is tuned to the lowest sensitivity.

How does Adaptive cruise work with the Manual? Will it slow you down enough to lug your engine or will it ask you to downshift?

Yes, it has gone from 65 to high to mid 40s in 6th because someone merged over too close. It's happened a few times too. Its not a big deal, but I'm used to vehicles w/o drivers aids and do not prefer them. I understand why it will remain in cruise though, that's how I discovered it works that way. Truck dropped about 15 mph in 6th and I just shifted to 4th and it remained cruising. For those wondering, even with the sensor set to the closest following distance it still starts braking at about 2 car lengths. I understand and accept that its not perfect and how much work it would take to make something that is. It just sucks when someone comes over about 20 to 30 feet in front of you doing the same speed as you and the truck just starts braking. It can be overridden by simply accelerating though if you get it in time that it doesn't lug. I think it would be nice on the auto, but I think the manual would be better w/o it. I also completely disable the lane departure system.

Not saying its useless, just that if I had the option I would pass. It has helped once with a sudden traffic change, but there is a concern that it can potentially completely stall the motor when it aggressively stops.

I have an 18 and I commute 2hrs in traffic each day with it. You will not stall the Tacoma even if you forget to shift. You can still “drive” at 30mph where cruise disengages in 6th gear. 40mph is about 1500rpm which is fine as long as you aren’t trying to full throttle. If I’m in an area where I’m stopping a lot I just pop it into 3rd or 4th and chill out. The truck will never go slow enough to lug in 3rd unless you have to stop hard (and you should naturally put your clutch in for that anyway).

My thoughts exactly. I did a little looking yesterday and it seems every place wants about $100 for the part $20 shipping. I haven't seen any posts of anyone who did this yet and if it made a difference but I'll probably give it a shot

I never noticed anything wrong before this part was installed to my truck.

Do you have this high pitched sound? Mine happens at 45 and 60. It is a faint high pitched sound that is very speed specific. I can replicate 90 percent of the time. It was present from day one of ownership. I have gotten used to it and just avoid those exact speeds.

I know I can just simply take the heat shielding off the side of the transmission and the whine goes away. Until I remove my rear cats I am just going to live with it. After I remove them that heat shield is going in the scrap barrel.and I’ll build a simple aluminum heat shield for the driver side exhaust tube.

I’m fairly sure it’s this. Very easily reproducible on my truck. Usually in the 55-60 range, I don’t remember the exact spot as I usually am doing interstate driving so I don’t hear it all the time.

It’s often enough though that if $120 makes it go away, I’m all in.

I was thinking about giving that a shot just to verify that’s the issue on my truck. Maybe if it stops raining here I’ll do that tomorrow and see what happens.

Never had a problem with this noise. I've heard it maybe once or twice in nearly 15,000 miles if it's even the same thing addressed in the TSB . Do you guys have your front air dam installed on your trucks?

There’s no air dam on the TRD OR.
