    Ooo shiny new TSB.

My Pro has had that high pitched whine noise from day one, was never sure if that particular sound was the "howling rear diff" everyone complained of in 3rd Gens but it didn't bother me enough to really look into it, although it is slightly annoying traveling at a constant 60 MPH and hearing that in the back. Always heard it from 50ish-60. I'll get the TSB done with my 15k service and see if it actually helps or eliminates the noise. Bone stock Pro otherwise.

Looking for new tires and I’m interested in 285/75/17 ridge grapplers. Anyone have experience with that size? My main concern is re-gearing. Should I consider it or would I be fine with the stock MT gearing?

I've had that issue maybe 6 times in the 67k miles on my 2014. I never do the rowing thing, I just put it back in neutral try again while I give it a little clutch and it pops right into gear.

Happens to me once in a while, I just put it back to neutral, clutch out, clutch in and it usually cooperates the second time around.

Edit - the other day it wouldn't go all the way into reverse when I was trying to leave work, cycled the clutch the same way and good to go.

This may be a placebo effect but I'm not sure if my shifts are feeling a touch smoother if I press the clutch pedal all the way to the floor vs a little past the engagement point.

You should always press it to the floor... cause you may not feel it engaging, but it could still be rubbing ever so slightly and not fulling disengaging causing hard shifts. I just switched my stock trans fluid out for Redline MT-90 and I feel that makes a difference

Strange. I normally press till the pedal till its about 1-1.5 inches from touching the floor.

So I don't have my Tacoma yet (on order - should be here in a couple months), but my current vehicle, 2004 Saturn Vue 4cyl 5MT, has always done something similar to that as well. Starting from normal speed driving, if I come to a complete stop with clutch in and just in neutral, it is really hard to get into 1st when the time comes to get going again. You gotta really jam it sometimes or fiddle with it. Has left me looking silly at a stop light or sign trying to get it into gear. I have found if it gets like that sometimes it works to shift into 2nd and then up into 1st, even with holding the clutch in while doing so (don't have to let it out between shifts or anything, just the act of going through the gears helps).

But what I found the real trick to do is to, when slowing down, push and hold in the clutch and put it in neutral and JUST before you come to a complete stop put it in to 1st. You don't even have to let the clutch out when doing it, just make sure it gets in there. Once you are stopped you can then go back to neutral and let the clutch out if you are going to idle at a stoplight or something and when you go to put it back into 1st again it will go right in with no problems. Took some trial and error when I first got it to figure that out, but has worked for me now for many years.

Hopefully the above made sense and maybe something similar could help with the Tacoma? I'll hopefully have mine in a couple months and will learn those little nuances as well.

    I've g
ive ground the synchros on this truck a couple times from that happening. Always in 1st gear. The shifter will have gone in half way and feel like it is in gear. I had my clutch and pressure plate replaced at around 600 miles because the original pressure plate was torqued to tight and was causing my clutch to barely drag a little. My shifts became noticeably smoother and now at nearly 15,000 miles I've had only 1-2 occurrences.

Exactly the problem I have with the damned thing. It should be called a Delayed Clutch-Dumper.

I figured out a clutch on my buddy’s motorcycle. Then drive the company van a few times (Chevy van with manual 3 speed on the floor). The truck I had perfected things on was my ‘89 Toyota 2wd. Out of the 6 Toyota trucks I’ve had, only one was an auto and I should have got the manual. The new Pro is a 6mt and is a super smooth shifting truck.
The funnest manual I’ve had was my ‘72 Land Rover. It had a full syncro box but the one on first was shot so I’d drive it like an older Rover that didn’t have one. From a stop, clutch in, 3rd gear to stop the tranny from spinning, then 1st and off. It would also shift pretty good without the clutch. That and the ‘77 F250, pretty smooth without the clutch.

One Christmas shopping trip I’m off with my buddy with the ‘67 Rover. After more beer consumption than actual shopping we headed for home. He was too far gone to drive so tossed me the keys (only had 2 officer). This was the first time in a non-syncro truck AND it was the first time driving a right hand drive. Before we got home he looks over and says, “Are you using the clutch?”
    “No.”
    “Ok”

Haha, it shifted nice. I had just got off the road from truck driving and just sort of fell into listening to the engine and floating gears.

So strange. I haven't experienced that at all. Maybe mine isn't working "properly"?

What does it feel like? Does it slow the clutch down from being depressed?

In my experience, unless you ride the clutch a tiny bit, it produces a clunk when the friction plate makes contact with the pressure plate, a second after you let your foot off the pedal.

Ahh...that makes sense then. I tend to slip the clutch a bit.
