Way, way, WAY too much. Like two Tacos too much, but 300,000mi from now.

I'm sort of betting on these guys to make bank, continue on with similar monsters for a lot less, or for others to come along and do the same?

I drive battery powered equipment at work. 7+ tons, and they move quick. Tesla cars are supposed to be fast too. Borrow Ford's fake V8 sound and we'll be all set.

Sometimes when I'm a full stop, 1st gear doesn't go in all the way in my manual transmission. Usually you can feel two clicks when shifting into each gear. When this issue with 1st gear happens I feel just one click, and to remedy the situation, I have to shift down to 2nd and then back up to first. This only happens at a full stop. Does anyone else have this issue?

This is not uncommon with some newer MTs and has a lot to do with the triple cone syncros. What you said is the best quick fix. On our other cars, the long term solution was Redline oils. I swapped it into the Taco about 5,000mi ago. It really helps with this and smoothes shifting in general.

Try throwing in the clutch and giving the throttle a gentle blip, raising the RPM just slightly. Take your foot off the throttle. As the RPM's start to decrease, engage first. It might help.

This is common on all Japanese vehicles in the past 20 years as far as I noticed, another option is to roll back slightly (if you are on the hill).

Nice weight. Positive grip. Never hot. Cold as hell in winter.

Good option but that will get a grind if not done perfectly though.

If it starts to grind, just throw in the clutch again.

Yup, but that's why going to 2nd and back to 1st was the better method for me until using Redline.

You can also just put the the stick back in to neutral. In the Big trucks with non-synchro transmissions you can also just let the clutch out very slowly until it barely starts to grab and the gear should pop right in with no grinding.

This "halfway in gear" thing isn't limited to Japanese transmissions. Previous cars did it, my GT350 and Tacoma both do it from time to time. All you have to do is go back to neutral. Let out the clutch briefly, then push in the clutch again and try shifting to first again. No need to blip the throttle. Going to second and then trying again works as does rolling a bit. All that's needed it to move the transmission guts a little. At least on the Tacoma, the shifter has longish throws so it's pretty obvious when this happens. The shifter on my GT350 has very short throws and it's easy to get fooled.

Yep, I think what causes is not enough torque to spin the synchro enough to get the teeth lined up. This is a random but normal characteristic and just a minor annoyance when you don't catch it and you grind a little.

My old Trans Am did this for the reverse gear. If I didn't hold the shifter before giving it gas, the gears would lightly grind since it was only half in gear.

Congrats on the 5-speed, you got maybe one of the last ones ever made. Legendary Taco config, respect.

Modified the level of gas in the tank
Depending on the year, might have been a non-synchro'd gear
