    Ugh. . .

You're out of the club. :D

Can I at least get a :hattip: or :hattip::hattip:?

"The issue with this is something that many owners complain about. Lack of effective engine braking. When the engine is decelerating, the engine load drops. But in the stock ECU, the valve timing target will still use the column of 15% engine load (same as low load drive range). As a result you're still in "Atkinson" and the cylinders are bleeding off pressure. Therefore, you're getting less compression to help with engine braking. With our EROM table we can take control of deceleration and target valve timing (like below) that helps increase cylinder pressure, and increase engine braking. Unfortunately the only true benefits of this will be for trucks that have manual transmissions due to the automatics programming logic to drop to higher gears when you let off the gas."

I can't even venture into the MT thread to find my post(s), but . . .

I think you and I may have even had that conversation lol. I remember asking Mat about full OTTO amd if anything could be done about engine braking/DFCO. Regardless, I'm glad he's doing something about it.

    Oh and, :hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip::hattip:

When you pop in that tune, what throttle percentage are you seeing while coasting?

No problem! That was the most informational post that I have seen. Something explanatory like that earlier would have helped me more.

Damn, wish I had watched that PID the other day.I was looking for injection mode. IIRC, when hot and you lift in gear, it's always right around the same value, I think 7 deg? Honestly Tony I'd have to test that out to be sure. DFCO will be active too.
The intake VVT angle goes to a certain value and stays there as well. Now, I don't have the tune version with this engine braking enhancement.. probably only Mat and some testers right now if he's even trialled it yet.
I get what you mean about Mat's info sharing, the forum is a bad place to do it. Some assholes pissed him off a while back, and that's when the shift started towards his site and blog posts. It is much better.

No worries! It can wait until you see the tune again. Also, any impressions that you have of the engine braking.

7% would be killer. I would see a min around 15% to 17% with the injectors on or not. I would get a bit more braking once the injectors do turn off.

Given the craziness of the system, I could not figure out if that was the actual plate or something else, but I did know that it was too much.

I am sorry that it happened that way, but I asked for the OPs to at least be updated and to kill off one or two of the threads.

I will keep an eye on that blog.

    Thanks!

I'll see about using OBD fusion to monitor tomorrow. I hate carting the laptop around unless I'm logging for Mat.
Yeah that injector on/off cycle while in 4low on a steep hill drives me batshit crazy. DFCO. Feels like you just launched a couple spark plugs when it happens (hey, this ain't no Ford Triton engine).

OVT 1.05 Modified Atkinson 91 Octane pre-release M/T tune loaded. Coasting (full lift) around 80km/h going down a slight grade. "Absolute throttle position" (in percent) is a SAE PID, and "Throttle Position" (in degrees) is a Toyota Specific PID in the app:

    4ADF5C26-C2C3-492C-9C02-B5FDAE4FC696.jpg

    Idling in traffic:

    E831DED3-89D4-4A63-9014-A02AD876C959.jpg

It is interesting to note that while coasting and slowly decreasing speed, the throttle position value also slowly decreases. Cable throttle doesn't do that lol.

    Notes:
    1. A/F ratio while coasting is pegged at it's max value (max in the app or maybe PID), 18:1. We are in DFCO, folks (obviously). The engine isn't firing, it's being spun by my rear wheels.

    2. As Mat said in his blog, calculated load never drops below 15%, even while coasting!

    3. Intake VVT target angle is the same for full lift (DFCO) as it is for idle. It immediately snaps to 30 deg every time. I don't know what reference or position of the cams/crank Toyota uses for VVT angles.

@tonered , can I be in the club again? :D

Thanks, but darn. Now, I'm confused again.

That is interesting about the AFRs. I thought that I saw them peg out while coasting? That would have been pre-TSB.

You were never out of the club. Hahahaha!

Edited my post to state 18:1 (not %, duh) for that pegged out AFR lol. I didn't have my coffee inboard yet.

AFRs always peg out while coasting (full lift) until you reach ~1300 rpm, or hit the clutch, or breathe on the throttle. OVT or OEM file, same thing. Sorry for the confusion. Makes sense, injectors are off when you lift.

Again, we don't have a tune file yet with the engine braking enhancement Mat mentioned in his blog. Perhaps this next release will have that implemented :fingerscrossed:

No worries. I understood about the AFR.

Ah! Sorry. I ASSuMEd from the your post that you were running that release.

    I found similar:

    Screenshot_20181220-062341.jpg

This was while coasting in 4th downhill. I need to see what our Subaru says while coasting.

In other news! I got a Carista beta update:

    InkedScreenshot_20181220-061122_LI.jpg

The Detailed ECU Info in the Service menu is now showing the Cal ID.

Right on, I'll be sure and check these PIDs again once 1.05 drops. Mat will usually state if something like that is implemented in a particular release. A bunch of us will probably ask if he doesn't lol.

Lol, I love how it says transmission calibration ID.. say wut?

Hahaha! I saw that when I posted it in the Carista thread. It wasn't there in the screen dump from the earlier version. I'm not sure what it is picking up on. I might need to cruise the TSB-0058-18 thread to see what AT IDs are shown to see if it agrees.
