Nice! Glad there is an off-the-shelf solution for you.

I invested in a bunch of partial profile threading inserts, which are nice considering they cover a wide range of thread pitches. For thin walled stuff like this one needs a full profile tool (which is exclusive to a single pitch) to keep from interfering with the root radius spec. Most of the time this does not matter, but here it surely does.

I’m glad I came across this thread! Here’s my 17 with the 6 speed manual. It’s currently set up now as a backcountry first response vehicle, and as a backpacking/outdoor guiding rig. It’s served me very well in the AZ backcountry, and has already helped save 1 life. Had a 2nd gen with the 6 speed as well that lasted me 295k miles before selling it, and a 1st gen 4cyl 5 speed that eventually rusted out in the Midwest with ~350k on it. This guy only has 27k on it, so I’ve got a ways to go!

having a weird flashback and reminiscing of the 'old days' (late 90s early 2000s) while waiting for my truck to get is preventative maintenance done pissin the time away checking out the inventory on the lot, going from window to window to catch a peek and take note of the AT vehicles that needed to be avoided
Somewhere at some point i think i gave up and say why do i even bother seems to be so few MT available so why bother keeping the dream alive...

Same here. I will do that for cool cars in parking lots also. The effect of seeing ATs is amazing.

It took me a while to find a manual Tacoma, I really wanted a Off Road but it was dumb luck I found a Pro.
All of my cars for the last 20 years have been manual.
That said this is not a smooth shifting gearbox and I’ve done a few things to it, which it did help but marginally.
My other daily driver is Acura TSX 6speed and it’s a night and day difference between these two gearboxes. Given...that’s not a fair comparison because the TSX, Civic Si, and S2000 probably have one of the best gearboxes IMO. Anyone who’s driven one will know what I mean.

You should of seen my daughter in law’s face when I told her I was buying a “manual” Tacoma. Her face sank.
“Why are you buying a manual”

The Gearbox in the 3rd Gen Tacoma is buttery smooth compared to the previous 2nd Gen.

Damn...I must of been in the dark about that when truck shopping. I was so focused on buying a 12-15 off road(dumb luck I found a pro) in manual.
I just bought my truck like two months ago, but now I'm curious about driving a 3rd gen manual to compare.

If you buy a new truck can you transfer to the new one, or do you have to buy OVTune a second time?

Sorry, but I do not know. @Shellshock had two 3rd Gens.

I do know that you can easily get a REG file from OVT for a new tuning computer? :D

If you have a new truck does OVTune void the warranty?

Sneezing too hard can void your warranty. It's all up to the dealership that you take your truck to.

The ECU is completely and totally locked down by Toyota. This is the one thing they obviously and clearly did NOT want the user messing with. 100% voids your warranty, and probably could be argued it would void your entire vehicle warranty. Youre messing with the entire engine management (drivetrain) system, on a vehicle developed by the Largest manufacturer on earth, who has entire teams dedicated to writing ECU code. Instead, were now saying some random guy, responding to emails on a message board is qualified to write code for Toyota, and this code is "good" for your truck.. it takes literally no brain what so ever to realize OV tune FOR Sure will void your warranty if Toyota or the dealership realized you had it.

From a legal perspective, if you messed with the computer code of your truck, and it effected the timing the, the fuel, the air, the shifting etc. etc.. youre talking about unintended changes to the motor, transmission and computer. Toyota and the dealer could have a field day on you.

    Think carefully about it.

This is guy is right about voiding your warranty.
I would add that he has something against OV from his posts lately.
The team that wrote the tune for the largest manufacturer on the planet could have done a better job with this Tacoma tune.
OV has stated the tune is undetectable by the dealers. Now that is true but I would assume if Toyota corporate got involved they could find it.
So as with anything in life you have to make the decision on the amount of risk your willing to take.
I don’t have the tune but probably will at some point and have been following the progress for a year. There have been no issues with the tune causing engine failure.

I say this shit all the time. I applaud you, but you’re not gonna change anyone’s minds. I even love saying “the unintended consequences” but still.

People give fanboys grief over having trust in the logic behind Toyota’s engineers. THose same people have an undying faith to...yes...some guy. The funniest part is that they are ALL just on a first name basis when speaking about him, like he was there at thanksgiving. “Well MAT says...” lol. Yeah. K.
