Same here. But, the Hill Assist is there and I don't mind it. I may have looked at the Parts List to see if it is a mechanical line lock feature. I can only see plain lines and connections, so it must be part of the ABS or EBD unit.

I hate gizmo creep. But, there are a few that I do like, such as backup cameras, electric defrosters, keyless door locks (like ours, not the sensor kind), BT audio, and ABS. Everything else is a luxury.

I wish A/C was still a stand alone option. I just don't use it unless the fam is in the car and they roll all the windows up on a nice day.

I did use i plenty times, but not on that hill, we actually had to winch truck all the way up. 35s ain’t enough for that climb! :annoyed:

it’s very weird when truck goes forward with that feature but engine doesn’t crank fully (angles are steep) hard to explain...

Why do we HAVE to get power windows in these trucks? Just another dang fancy part to 'brake'!!

Also, I use clutch start cancel all the time when I want to start the truck without actually hopping in, for example when I want to cool it off with A/C for a few minutes before driving off.

I simply don't like it nor want it, if you are happy with having it that's great.

I noticed a similar feeling. I test drove an OR to get a feel for the shifting even though I knew I was getting a Pro since they didn't have and MT Pro in stock. I had just attributed it to each transmission being a little different as well as the overall driving feel difference in the OR vs. Pro.

I'm having intermittent trouble shifting in reverse. Distance wise, the shifter feels like it travels half way in reverse. I don't always notice so when I release the clutch it grinds. To remedy this I have to shift into another gear first then I can fully shift into reverse. Anyone else experience this? 30k miles 2tr 5 speed r156f.

Try releasing the clutch pedal, then depressing it again and perhaps that will allow it to shift all the way.

this is pretty normal on every Manual transmission I've ever driven. The synchro stops the gears when the teeth are perfectly lined up with each other, you can try letting the clutch out in neutral, or you can shift to a different gear, like straight up into 5th and then back down into reverse. The thing is that you need to catch this before you let the clutch out and grind, happens me to me to though.

Sounds like the anti power seat guys worried that it's something that will "break".

Also, the Clutch Cancel Switch is also great in the winter when the drivers door is frozen shut, started from the passenger seat many times in that situation.

I have the Canadian TRD AC MT and Reverse is up and beside 1st gear. First 6 speed and first MT with R in that location for me. I put it in R instead of 1st gear a few times when I first got the truck.

That shift pattern has been that way since 2005 on Tacoma's, my Truck's have all had quite a bit of resistance at the gate to prevent accidental Reverse engagement.

Simply not wanting a feature on my truck is a zero insinuation that others cannot drive a MT, sorry you made such an assumption and am happy you enjoy the feature on your truck.

Put some Old English furniture polish on the door seals and they won't freeze shut.

Thanks for the tip, usually use 303 on the seals and have even used blue painters tape all the way around the door openings when the freezing rain is moving in.

I hear you but I’ve had two first gens and one second gen 4 banger 5 speeds prior and never had this issue. Granted it’s a newer transmission now but still doesn’t feel right. I’m at the dealer now but not too optimistic tbh.

After dealing with the gear hunting in my auto transmission I wished I opted for the manuals trans now. Drove my buddy’s off road in the 6 speed manual and I enjoyed it a bit more

Started in a 16 auto and now I drive a 17 MT. Best trade I ever made.

I didn’t even test drive an auto, I still have never driven an auto Tacoma. But I’m curious as to how feels now thanks to this forum.

Had a 98’ first gen manual too at one point wasn’t bad either.

If a vehicle has a manual option I just go for it. Which is basically only Tacomas and a few cars these days. I have a Jetta tdi manual right now as well. Makes a slow car a little bit more fun to drive.
