It's a 2nd gen Stout, I think they were only in the States for '67-69. Then they switched to the HiLux in '69 so unlikely it's anything later then that.

I am having a problem (I think its a problem) with my tranamission. When I engage the clutch and shift to a new gear, usually the lower gears only I am getting a clunk sound and feel. The clutch is still fully engaged. I also feel like the shifting is not very smooth. At a stop, i can cycle through all the gears nicely. When in motion however, the gear changing is rough and clunks. HELP!!

That's all normal, the 2nd gen manual was worse about it but displayed the exact same sounds/feels. If you drive them back to back the 3rd gen is much smoother and less clunky but it's still a truck mt

Not sure how many miles you've got, but mine definitely smoothed out as the miles progressed.

It is just a touch of axle wrap made worse from the super soft rubber mount on the carrier bearing in the drive line.

Wanted to share the tahoe area of northern california. I drive a manual, and it handled the muddy terrain like a champ using only 4hi. Cheers!

Always had a manual--Love it--keeps the wife from driving it too!!! You always know how much fuel you have-LOL.
"can I borrow your truck--bring it back empty".Never happens!!!
Do wish there was a higher gear for highway driving. Plenty of power with the 6cyl-probably reduce the RPMS at least a grand for better mpg. 1st gen-love my truck!

Yep that's normal. In my truck it does it mostly when I come to a stop in neutral (such as a stop sign) and then put it into first.

Reverse takes even more effort once you install a shift kit because it reduces the shifter leverage. Shift kit or not, once you get some miles on the truck the shifter will loosen up a bit and it won't be too bad. I've have the URD shift kit for 5 years and the truth is, once you've been driving it for a while you don't really even notice it anymore.

It will get better with miles. Mine "clunked" until about 500-600 miles...

Thank you all for the feedback. I was worried I was damaging the transmission.

You honestly wont be disappointed, after having this truck for a few weeks, i took it thru mud and rocks the first day i got it. I'm pretty satisfied knowing everything about this truck is functional. The color is honestly in my opinion best for rugged use although they are all great, and the manual transmission gives me a piece of mind. Only thing they need now is a diesel for the next gens.

    Simply too much fun!

Yeah, all colors are nice but the silver is timeless. Mine should be here in three weeks so until then post all the pics you want, it eases the pain of waiting. Lol
