ADM = accumulator delete modification basically takes an orificed puff box out of your hydraulic clutch line and restores true 1:1 clutch feeling.

    You're welcome.

Also, all dealer customizations noted toward the end of the OM can be done with the Carista app or TechStream. TS can be downloaded from my signature. With TS, you'll need a quality cable as an interface, like a Tactrix adapter.

I second the RWD LO only mod as well.

First gear is nice and low, not quite a granny gear, but still works well and I feel is nice to have in a truck. Unfortunately it seems like second gear is still a pretty standard ratio and so there is a bit of a gap between the two. So you need to wind out first a bit before going into second, otherwise you end up bogging down a bit when you shift up into it. Not a big deal, just takes a bit of getting used to.

Reverse on the other hand...:annoyed: Anyway, if you find R frustrating, especially if you tow/haul, then that is what the 2LO mod is good for.

this little thing, spinning up the motor after 1st going into second, actually changed my life. this truck is not slow and doesn't bog at all if you drive it like a 3.5 and not a bigger motor.

I'm getting used to engaging reverse. I had a Jetta at one point, so that helps. Sometimes I'm pushing down on it when I just need to push over more.

I also noticed I'm shifting a bit early. I'm used to going by sound, and I'm thinking 2k is sounding more like 4k. Just something to get used to like you said. 3k sounds like 6k in my other vehicles.

I have found riding out 1st gear the best method too.

    Welcome to the club:hattip:

Other members have already versed you on the mods possible for your truck and I would like add one more.

Short shifter. There are 2 options,

    the Core shifter ( https://core-shifters.com/collections/shifters-for-toyota-tacoma )

and the Under Dog Racing shifter ( https://www.urdusa.com/urd-short-throw-shifter-2016-tacoma-3-5l-v6/ )

The core shifter is a complete shifter with a new lever and base, while the URD unit is a mod to the factory base and lever.

I have been running the URD unit for almost 2 years and am happy with it.

Reverse location is not really an issue, the problem is it's geared like a highway gear, not good for backing uphill with weight in the bed or with a trailer.

This might be odd but I find short shifting 1st smoother. I find the combination of the torque curve of the engine and first being low can be touchy and prefer getting into second and using it for a longer pull while accelerating in traffic.

Yep that is what I meant about R. Getting into it you learn pretty quick, but trying to use it without burning up the clutch (especially with weight in or behind the truck), is the true struggle.

I wind up 1st gear to 3k rpm if i need to go quick 3.5k rpm and higher if i really need to rip it, but if im taking my time i shift around 2k rpm. I use second if my truck rolls forward even the slightest. It took me few months to be pretty quick and smooth with this tranny.

The throttle response does not help, but ive learned to deal with it. In the beginning was a wtf moment.

How do you fight the rev hang if your really want to rip it (3500-6k RPMs). The higher RPMs the worse the hang is. To the point where if I say f*ck it and just dump the clutch the tires chirp.

You don't have to dump the clutch. Just pause the stroke briefly at the very beginning of the friction zone and it will bring the revs down.

I've done that too. TBH hard to tell what will wear the clutch more.

To me, it feels like it is barely engaging and quickly matches revs. In my mind, it is less wear than a dump and less shock to the driveline. When I do that, I can bare feel it.

I don't have a video of that, but this was harsher than I would like:

It took me some time to get used to, but i agree with what @tonered said. Just release clutch a bit slower, it is what is is.

Ive dumped the clutch a few times when the tires chirp, but i just feel so bad when i do that, haha!

No harm in a chirp from time to time, but I would not be happy chirping every time the revs hung up / every shift above 4k.

    Agreed.

Most of the time I slow shift it. 2500 RPMs or so. Amazing how many drivers are up my ass when I'm shifting. We live in the city and you won't see speeds over 25 usually...calm down and stay off my ass.
