Thanks for the input! I realize buried in another thread at some point, I had tried to scratch the surface of hearing the expressed differences between accumulator / no accumulator.

That is helpful to hear though and I'll have to dig through this thread more and the accumulator delete thread.
Looks like the mod at it's current state is pretty easy. :bananadance:

There was a change for the 3rd Gens. I believe they eliminate the pilot bearing and a bolted on nose? I'm sure someone will correct that if I am off on the info.

We would still have TOB issues if the clutch is not properly adjusted.

Yeah. If I was doing it today, I would dremel the accumulator and be done fast and easy. While that is not reversible, the worst feedback that has been given is that the clutch doesn't feel different after the mod. Everyone's butt dyno is calibrated differently. :D

Nice. Tons of love here for both. I was searching for a TJU when looking for the Taco. There were none to be found. Hell, even TJ MTs were hard to find and pricey.

LJ is what you were looking for. My holy grail Jeep as well. Way overpriced. Will probably just over pay for one one day, lol. Have had two TJ's and two YJ's, all stick shift. Did have to work on them a lot more than the Tacoma. Still fun as hell.

Dude I stole this LJ for $9k. On top of that for one year out of their three year run they didn't even make them with a manual. The next cheapest one on FB or CL was $13k and had double the miles as this one.

I loved my TJ's and YJ's, but i did spend more time under them, than in them, lol. Other then the 4.0, it was a beast.

I didn't know that they changed the model code for the first Unlimited. Good info.

Yeah. The old Wranglers were about the only Chrysler product that I could have a bit of trust in. I liked the simplicity of the TJs.

Wow. The best prices that I saw around here for one that was not beat up or over 150k was about $15k?

Thats cause AMC designed and built the 4.0 , lol. They just didnt grenade it or change anything major, after they bought them.

I find prices about the same here.

Literally only annoyance my tacoma has had in 130k, has been the chirp. I actually just changed the front brake pads for the first time and they probably still had 1/3 life left. Lol

It took me a while to get over the V6 and consider searching for them. I just couldn't justify the prices, same as the 2nd Gens, so I went with new.

I am just about to go out of warranty and I can't even think of anything to complain about. I had a squeaky rear door panel and loose U bolts that I fixed at home. The clutch pedal made noise a couple times and I only had to adjust the push rod and toss on some lube.

The only real problem is not spending money on freaking mods.

The squeaky clutch pedal in my taco has been driving me insane lately. Don't really want to get the TSB done since it sounds like they replace it with the same shit.

That point is interesting to me... It seems like that's the experience of most who have done the ADM so I'm sure it's the case, but what does getting into gear have to do with the actuation of your clutch? (other than double clutching, which you could do w/ or w/out an accumulator). It seems like getting into 1st should only be a function of the sync wheels (or lack thereof) in the transmission.
Can anyone explain why this happens?

Mine squeaked for a little bit, but if i remember right, i just had to reach down there and rotate something plastic or something like that. Been years ago now, cant remember for sure. They the same pedal?

Just lube it with disk brake grease. The noise is likely to never come back.

Otherwise, the latest TSB (attached) does actually swap in new part numbers. It is too early to tell if it is a real improvement. If it ever gets serious enough on mine, I will just pony up the $$ and buy the parts.

Alternatively, @subrat has hammered out a full metal pedal setup. He has it well documented in his build thread.

I'm not talking about selecting the gear. Although 1st was the last set of syncros to fully break in.

I'm talking about getting a butter smooth downshift. I have always been able to do it on any other MT. With the accumulator, it was a shitty shift if I was rolling at any speed. Downshifts into 2nd could be problematic at times also. Smooth shifts into 1st are the extreme case due to the revs difference.

LoL, though! You're question is why I qualified the statement in the post. :D Mainly, I drop it into 1st only because folks 'say' that you should not.

clutch control. it's about the release into first via the clutch. modulating the clutch into high spinning first was so inconsistent that you just couldn't do it. i also couldn't modulate the clutch to walk the truck smoothly around idle. i couldn't dance around the bite point, it was too unclear and engagement inconsistent.

I saw that. He did a hell of a job but it's not driving me THAT crazy yet. I have a full grease gun but don't really want to stop at autozone just for a little packet of grease unless I go in for something else. Is there any reason not to use regular grease? On a related note of annoying squeaks, I also have one in the seat track bushings I think that is far more annoying and harder to track down. Its sort of a random clicky noise but I don't really want to go to town under there with a can of white lithium.

I believe the pedal is similar. The TSB applies back to 2005, but is only allowed in the warranty period. o_O

There are plastic bushing on the ends of the non-linear clock spring. The one on the pedal side can shift on its perch.

Ah that makes sense. I though you were talking about selecting the gear not actually releasing the clutch into gear. I have noticed that anywhere over ~5mph is a bitch to do it smoothly.

I got to drive my friend's '67 mustang recently and after feeling the responsiveness of that clutch (and whole car really) I think I'm about one paycheck away from getting rid of the accumulator in my truck
