Red isn't that strong, esp with hex heads. A hit with a propane torch is usually good enough. Stripping a socket head might be a worry.

I have used blue thread lock on motorcycle clutches, per the MFG. The Ural's definitely needed heat to get out.

he said NO. well he's got all the experience and that's why i use him and nobody else. even adding torque makes me a tiny bit uneasy, i just wished i knew how they were torqued at the factory. but all is well with the parts.

I get you. That is why I said that I have never touched an automotive clutch.

    Lordy got me scared @su.brat

mines in the shop right now for a weird clutch noise I think you were on that forum too. I also have the stage 2 and heavy flywheel. This noise didn’t happen untill I did the ADM. worst part is I posted the noise on the thread and no one on tacoma world knows what it is. I’m just about to buy a 99 civic and not touch shit on it.

it's a scary mystery for sure. it's high quality components the URD is built from, but seems there is/are design issue(s), and maybe assembly issues. the only thing i can figure here is that my clutch wasn't assembled to spec. 12,000 miles all with the ADM and it's falling apart? if there was an actual manufacturing or design spec issue i think we would know from all the URD clutches out there, tons of em in the 2nd gen world. haven't heard of a pressure plate just coming undone.

No issue for 12k got the adm and it started making a noise. Engagement is fine and grabs fine.

still trying to put together a theory that can explain my issue. i was surprised the tq spec is 14lbs for the pressure plate bolts. after your issue I wondered if that low tq is 'buffered/protected' by the accumulator, or that the ADM's directness stresses the pressure plate with that low tq spec... no idea, haven't seen reports. anyone here know anything about pressure plate bolts and their torque spec?

I ran into this once (1st locking out) in my truck after a miscommunication at the shop I use led to me getting Valvoline GL-4/5 in my transmission instead of GL-4. Luckily I noticed it less than 2 weeks / 500 miles afterwards and had them put in MT-90. It's amazing how quickly the shifting returned back to normal, if not slightly smoother. Next time I'll suck it up and do my own fluids even though I loathe doing fluids.

Pretty excited for fluid exchange. Who wouldn’t be? Just need to buy a pump.

    Good catch.

Driveline fluids are pretty easy, esp the rear diff and MT.

Yep. I was going through the paperwork and the database the shop used had the capacity correct, but the fluid as GL-4 or GL-5, so I asked the question. The fluid they used was a Valvoline GL-4/GL-5 that claimed it was fine for either rating in either service, but there was a not about sychromesh transmissions. I had originally requested MT-90 but they must not have ordered it or something. They ended up making it right in the end, and I have to believe sub-500 miles isn't the end of the world, even if the fluid wasn't yellow metal safe. I've been driving the truck for a week now and the shifting has been improving every day (and it wasn't even bad prior).

I'll change it again next summer and go from there.

Exactly. Ultimately their database was wrong, so I cannot fault them for using the wrong fluid. Like, whatever they use for their information must have used the early 2G spec (which called for GL4 or GL5) compared to the late 2G / 3G spec of GL-4. They've been my go-to shop for tires for about a decade, so I cannot fault them when their information is wrong. It's not like when the Toyota dealer used LX instead of LF on my transfer case.

Tacoma was also a manual but sold it to my buddy in Alaska after I realized I only ever drove the Pickup anyway.

It's been nearly 10 years since I sold mine and I still miss it more often than not.

Ive almost sold mine many times. Lots of good offers. But it’s a couple years from “vintage” plates and is by far, and I mean really by far haha, the most trouble free vehicle I’ve ever had. It never ever needs a thing.

Probably helps that there’s only 112k on the 22R-E. Got it in 2012 with 81,777 iirc.
