JBA STD UCAs. 6112/5160 @6/5. Wheelers 1.5" 3AAL with Superbumps. BROG molle headrest covers. GMRS & Ham radios with roof-mounted NMO Laird Phantom antenna. Thinkware front/rear dashcams, FreshMexicanTaco's DMM, Meso's dome/map LEDs & Flipfob, Swingcase on driver side. Accumulator Delete Mod (ADM). Two-wheel drive Low Range Mod (2LM). Overland Tailor Tune (OTT) 7.0. Extra juicy oil spill on the bed mat.
Replaced needle bearing w ECGS, then installed JBA UCAs and the 6112/5160 kit with 1.5” 3AAL. Set the 6112 to 6/5. Then an unexpected surprise happened....

The typical clattering, rocking during low-speed shifts is gone. Since so much was changed, I am leery of declaring a correlation a causation. But either way the 6MT drives and shifts so much smoother.

Question for the mt crew here.
I have a 2016 double cab. She's heavy... Dual agms, winch, steel bumper, steel skids, sliders, racks, tent, 33s... The whole shebang
I love my urd stage 2 clutch, but I can feel the weight eating at my clutch, so it's time to spend some money on a regear!

Now, I come from driving civics and small shit. I love the idea of being able to start on second gear and have that peppy feeling. Obviously my 6500lbs truck won't feel like that, however, I'm strongly leaning to 5.88's. I rarely see 80mph so top speed isn't an issue.

Anyone have any negatives going to 5.88 in a manual? Thanks!!

Seems a bit excessive, most manual drivers of 3rd gen's go to 4.88s

I do a lot of crawling around on some rough trails.... so having that torque in 1st is really appetizing. Would it be TOO much? i'll never have a lighter setup than i do today.. i'll likely get heavier

Maybe call Nitro and talk to them. 5.29s are also popular with tacos turning 35s. Might be a good middle of the road option

If you really want crawling capability, get an Atlas. Done deal.

With all that weight, you might have issues with the tiny pinion being able to handle any kind of shock load (if there is even a 5:88 option).

    Nitro or Yukon?

Well.... One of them doesn't have a giant gm turd named after it..... :anonymous:

Lol I haven't done enough research to accurately compare the two

Most people are running 4.88s on the MT with 35s.
@Round the world has 5.29s.. but has a super heavy truck.

Yeah, did you mean 4.88? Is there even a 5.88? Usually the discussion is between 4.88 and 5.29. With 33s you are probably good at 4.88 but if you think you might ever go to 35s then 5.29 would be the way to go and get it done the first time rather than have to go back and do it again, IMO.

having 5.29s with a manual does not seem excessive, but realize that We’re carrying around 7,000 lbs and live in our truck. Taking off in first gear is great but it’s definitely not a classic “granny” gear as I’d Never consider attempting to start in second from a dead stop. Even doing a “California” stop in second gear is lugging it. Was in Telluride, CO last fall at around 8,000’ and attempted to back up a moderately steep incline - nope couldn’t do it - had to put it in 4wd lo. BTW, engaging 4wd lo is a PITA, it’s quite finicky, I dream of replacing it with a mechanical lever.

    BTW, we’re running 32” tires

ya, I’ve read about it, haven’t done it yet because I’m a bit afraid that it might mess things up. I should re-read to better understand it
