Well excuse me for not updating you on my status. I'm not running a lift any longer and the truck is back to stock suspension. I've got smaller tires that are better suited to the truck. Still bigger than stock but nothing out of the ordinary. I see lots of Toyotas around town with similar wheels and tires. The braking and steering is perfect and I have just the ever so slight vibration at 31mph. Nothing I can't live with and something I'll have the dealer look at when I get the oil changed.

What can not be understated is that the 4 cylinder is just that, a 4 cylinder.

Again, my apologies for not updating you.

Actually I believe we only loose 1 cup holder. Where we have 2 cup holders the auto only has 1 (Their gear selector is in our second cup holder location), and where the auto has 2 cup holders we have none. Therefore there is a difference of 1 cup holder.

Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to take the picture. Did you get your mirror through RJP869? That will be one of my first add-ons, and I really don't understand why Toyota decided to include it only on the limited. My 14 Baja has it...

Is that a homelink mirror? If you didn't get it stock, they must sell them aftermarket? How much?

What kind of mileage are you guys getting in the manual? I saw 18.1 posted a couple of times. Is this fairly typical?

Interesting... I can do 100mph no problem. Same drive train as you...245/75/16 Michelins and TRD FJ wheels.

...seems your wheels and tires are the issue, must be heavy as sin

The mirror is out of my Subaru Outback I traded in for the truck, bought it online from a dealer that runs a discount parts service, can't remember which one off the top of my head though. Same as the Limited one but the compass is red. Thanks to the way Toyota wired the harness there's always power so I'm no longer cycling that stupid compass off everytime I start the truck.

Is there truth to this. I have skipped gears for different reasons on other manuals without ill affect. But I have always heard that it might cause problems. What's the consensus?

18 is what I am averaging in mine with 265/75 r16. Click on my fuelly badge for the details. Best tank has been 19.8. Worst 15.

Yes, synchros are made to go from 2 to 3 and 3 to 2... not 5 to 3 or 4 to 2...

If you insist on doing so, make sure to you actually row the shifter through the gears you're wishing to skip over...

If your matching revs* it won't make a damn bit of difference. If you rely on syncros to do the work of making the revs climb on the input shaft then yes, you will absolutely wear them out faster by skipping gears. Well, it actually depends on how much they need to climb, but say your dropping sixth to third at 60 for a passing lane opportunity without blipping the throttle, that's going to hurt the syncros quite a bit. Slowing from 60 to 10 and going slowly from sixth to second with a long pause at neutral won't do a damn thing. It's all about not forcing the syncros to match the revs.

    *and double clutching

Edit for clarity - spent a lot of time in non-syncro large trucks in my youth

I don't need to be updated, I notice your posts on this topic regularly enough. You posted twice yesterday about not being able to go above 65mph. That's not a subjective issue or me picking on you, that's a serious problem with your vehicle. If you post about it publicly and regularly enough, some people may comment.

Not an OR, but here's a Sport. Probably similar. Showing close up of switches. From the Quicksand thread:

Thanks for the info here. Good stuff.

Isn't this discussion about honing our shifting skills? The reason we all like manuals is it gives us options on shifting patterns and strategies. Sometimes to hone skills takes some questions to be asked.:notsure:

My point was shifting more or shifting less is why we I like manuals. I choose.

Rev matching and heal toe are related, but not the same thing. I rev match all the time in pretty much everything I drive, be that Tacoma, S2K, or dump truck.
