I had a 2017 Pro4X 6MT that was by all accounts, stupid fast and fun. Some clown in a Chevy decided his 6000lb SUV needed to be where my front end was parked at a light. MFer.

Got a 2022 SV, 9 spd AT (only option) and frankly .... That's a good truck. Great for daily, nice ride, solid on road trips, can haul quite a bit comfortably. 2 weeks after I got it, the rest of the shit slide landed on me, long story short had to move and ended my kickass rental agreement, so now I'm paying 3x what I was. After winter, I waited until one of those dealership super sale weekends and swapped the 2022 SV for a 2017 OR Taco, got it tuned a few weeks later, and wham bam thank you ma'am I like my truck. :D

I drove one of the first 2016's, it was truly awful. It rode nice and was comfortable but it was like an epileptic monkey having seizures was playing with the shifter.

My 2016 SR wasn't bad. Also had the 2.7 in it. :D

I really don't ever understand people complaining about the lack of power and acceleration. The manual is not a race car but some people act like it cant even Thomas the Train engine up a hill.

I personally don't understand the rev hang witch hunt.

    It's a truck, not a gt350

Eh? It should not be there, but I have learned to just shift through it because as soon as you start to engage, the RPMs go where they are supposed to. Still, RH needs to die a horrible death.

Just drop the clutch and the revs will drop lol that’s what I always did

Exactly. But, revs falling normally are such a nice feeling in an MT.

My biggest complaint about the manual from the factory is 2nd gear. The other gripes are minor

even then, I’d still take it over the auto in stock form

Weirdly, 2nd has never been a problem, but I do sympathize as there are so many varied issues.

I always used 2nd in parking lots and it would bog down. Habit from other vehicles I had I guess.

reverse is def tall… but Toyota has always been that way so I’m used to that lol

My 2022 Tacoma is my latest manual transmission acquisition and will probably be a long term relationship considering the future of manuals and the internal combustion engine.

Ive owned a Ford Ranger, 80' Bronco, 3 F150s, a Foxbody Mustang GT and an 01' Mustang GT, VW Golf & Jetta TDI, Z06 Corvette, and a JK Wrangler, all in manual transmissions and loved driving them even if some of them were slow.

Ive owned like 3 automatics and hated two of them except for the FJ Cruiser which I still have, for as long as possible.

I'd hang onto the FJ, they seem to have gained value since they were last sold here.

Rock solid vehicle, strong 4.0L engine, worthy of the Landcruiser lineage. Glad I got it new the year before they quit making them.

It inspired me to pick up the Tacoma, but in a manual (smooth shifting too), loving those 4.30 gears!

How did they decide to stop making the FJ and bring back the Venza?

They just stopped making the FJ for Japan in the last year or two?

Still wish the transfer case was also equipped with a joy lever. :notsure:
