Nope, I pulled a loaded-to-the-gills 6x12 U-Haul which was very near the Tacoma's weight limit over 500 miles from New Hampshire, through the Poconos, and down to Maryland a few months ago; I had no issues with the gearing at all.

Anyone have positive or negative feedback about 265/75R16 or 265/70R17 tires?
I've seen plenty of posts about them fitting fine on stock suspension, but with 95% of Tacomas being automatic transmission, I am curious about how they affect the driving feel with a manual.

In my last car I could feel the difference in weight when switching between summer and winter tires. I got used to it after a few drives after each switch, but it definitely stood out each time.

How well do (fully stock) manual tacos handle the extra weight and larger diameter?

I went from stock to 285/70r17 and didn't feel any difference other than a slight hit in MPG. I wasn't on stock suspension but I don't think that would make much of a difference in terms of feeling the weight of the tires.

Slight difference, not dramatic. My least favorite part was it made reverse taller. Didn’t really notice much difference with passing power or mpg. Mpg showed about 1 mpg worse which balanced out with the difference in change.

Other than looks though, there is no big reason to change sizes other than tire availability. Lots more options for load ratings and such available in the 1” larger sizes.

On stock wheels there will be no rub.

Mine is completely stock and I went to a 265/70R17 all terrain tire and have no rubs or issues. Only difference I can feel is the all terrains are terrible in the rain versus a highway tire.

@BlarBlarjosh @BLtheP @Shiro213 Thank you for the input.

I am considering going a size up mainly for the looks, yes. And also for that sweet sweet extra 1/2" of ground clearance.

I have the 2-Lo mod, so I can utilize that if I need to back up any steep slopes.

This is the part I was most curious about. Don't want to end up with downgraded drivability and regret my decision.

Anyone had their TRD manual shift cover slide off? Mine did…trying to decide if I try to glue it back, live with it as is, or maybe go with a different knob.

I like the look and feel of the TRD knob much better than the stocker…but a little disappointed that this leather piece came off.

    You are absolutely sane.

These trucks have plenty of power and drive just fine right out of the factory.

Folks that say these trucks are underpowered simply lack driving skill or never owned 90HP shitboxes.

    Ive had:

    E rated 265/65/17 KO2s
    C rated 265/70/17 KO2s
    E rated 255/80/17 Wildpeaks ATs

Ive honestly noticed no measurable difference in MPGs or power loss. The only time I noticed my 33s, was when i was crawling in 1st in 4LO, otherwise i absolutely love 33x10 size and thats what im gonna run on my truck. Im still able to get stock MPGs if i drive conservative, cant recommend pizza cutters enough.

My truck would be an absolute beast with 4.88s, would really shine offroad but Its such a minor "complaint' that there is no way Im willing to shell out thousands to regear.

By the way, 2LOW mod is a game changer, i use mine all the time!

Always said I'd like more low end torque in a truck, but I don't need it. It's just a truck that wants to rev.

Nothing is perfect. More power is always welcome sure. Although Ive had zero issues in the power department and my truck is not stock.

My tach barely goes over 2.5K RPMs, unless im climbing hills with my 6x12x7 enclosed trailer.

But then you don’t get the VTEC hit at 3500!

(I know it isn’t VTEC, but man it really does feel like a VTEC hit)

    Damn right!

Thing turns into a rocket ship once it hits that peak torque!

Im running 94 Chevron on premium SFOB tune, redline is at 7250 ;) Truck is so much fun to drive at 4600 + RPMs.

Woah jealous. I didn't realize you could safely raise the redline by that much on a factory motor.

Haha! I hope its "safe", I need my tuck to last me minimum 300-400K without major repairs.

Although, i never went above 6500 RPMs or so. The snarl my HPS intake tube makes at those RPMs is insane :)

the original ov tunes raised limiter to 7250. but that is about the limit for this engine before your start throwing rockers. i have my limiter set to 7000 to be on the safe side as the valve springs age.

Yeah like I said, that’s when the secondaries on the carb open up.

Since apparently we have the same truck and same setup... I would love to go 488 but with 33-in tires that put you right back near stock ratios.

I'm planning on going to 529 since I spend a lot of time in four low crawling up things making Jeeps look bad.
