even towing. wouldn't having 5th be a slightly lower ratio be better in that case too. just above what 4th is now. in my tuned truck with no extra weight it holds 6th gear no problem even up grades on the highway. in cases of very steep hills i just go to 4th anyways as 5th is only a couple hundred rpms difference than 6th so it barely makes a difference.

When I had stock gears, I found 5th useless for towing. 4th was my towing gear, 65 @ 3200 rpm.

now with the regear, my 5th gear is about exactly where stock 4th was, and 6th is where 5th was. I like that setup. I use 5th for towing anything currently, same 65 @ 3200. 4th provides a nice decently powerful downshift when needed.

All this to say that I found 5th to be a mostly useless gear in stock form, although I did use it for cruising congested highways at highway speed for a bit more pickup when needed.

5th is my stroad gear. It’s perfect for routes marked at 45mph.

There are also tons of places in the mountains around here that 6th lugs on but 5th walks right up.

My Tacoma is bone stock, and when not towing 6th was just too tall for some of the 50-55 mph grades where I used to live in New Hampshire; 5th was perfect. When towing a heavy load, even on level ground 6th was too tall and caused the engine to lug; 5th worked quite well, and 4th was frequently called upon when climbing mountain grades, in fact, so too was 3rd for the steepest of the grades. Like it or don't, believe it or not, those "couple hundred rpms" make a huge difference.

The Taco is an auto, my daily is a 6 speed. What I knew would happen, finally happened just now.

I was using the truck for my weekend grocery run. I hopped in without thinking and had a brief moment of confusion when my right foot pressed the brake, while my left foot slammed into the floor pan without any resistance.

That's something that I haven't done in years. I guess I'm a manual driver again.

There was a point when I have to drive various automatic cars for work. I did the same thing for a while, and even reached into the center console to shift until I found out it is an automatic…

I often pull up to a stop in my ‘02 Tundra and worry about stalling before I remember it’s my one AT.

try driving an 18 speed 12-15 hours a day for weeks straight without ever using the clutch. then flying home to hop in your 6mt corolla at the airport and absolutely grinding the hell outa the gears forgetting to use the clutch while shifting.

Any vehicle can be shifted clutchless. You just don't have to be so mindful about rev matching on the big tractors.

    :cookiemonster:

I often half-clutch it when grandma driving the car. Sometimes I miss and grind the shit out of 3rd. I hate it when that happens. It feels like I just kicked my dog.

No money, all went to truck...
Almost 3 full years with my Tacoma. Still LOVE driving it. Running through gears, challenging myself to smooth shifts, pushing the truck hard...so much fun to drive. Never regretted choose a manual, EVER.

Interestingly, very few aftermarket all weather floor mat options for front mats. OEM mats are OK but would possibly like to upgrade soon.

I did get the squeak but a application of brake grease fixed it and hasn't come back.
