    Hello all,
I have a 2011 Tacoma 6cyl/6 speed manual TRD offroad with 43,000 on it. I used the dealer for all the free maintenace included with the truck. The free services ran out and did a couple oil/filter changes myself but did not do the full reccomended 30,000 mile service until recently.

The transmission had an unusual whine before the service (which is what spurred on the service). While draining the transmission it seemed like 2 quarts did not come out. What really concerned me was how soaked the foam insulation was that is above the transmission. I definitley feel it was some sort of fluid/oil.

Is there some sort of breather or other reason why it would be soaked? Is this where the fluid from the transmission could have gone? Any thoughts or ideas? I did a search of the forum here and couldn't come up with much.

    Thanks,
    MATacoma226

So you got a transmission fluid change done at the dealer? How do you know 2qts did not come out? Did you measure it?

Sorry for the lack of clarity... I did the 30,000 mile service myself. When I opened up the drain plug (warm fluid) my estimate was that 2qts. Did not come out

The 6spd doesn't hold much transmission oil, I would hope you DIDNT have much more than 2 qts come out b/c it doesnt hold much more than that when you drain/refill IIRC. I run redline mt-90 in mine. its great stuff.

If you don't see any leaks around the trans drain/fill plug, i wouldn't worry about anything. Refill trans with 2 qts and check it in a few days for leaks or new oil spots. I have no clue what the stains could be from though...I could be wrong, but i don't think there is a breather for the trans on the 6sp...i've never seen any fluid/oil around mine
