Sorry guys I know theres search and Youtube, slight emergency help.

Im a couple of states from home and my throwout bearing just grenaded. Its fully gone, no driving anywhere.

No dealer (dealer wanted like $240!) or Napa has one, autozone did but theirs is a cheap Chinese one and Im not pulling the trans to just pull it again. So I ordered an SKF (seems like better quality then the OEM one, IDK) from rockauto with like $40 shipping to get it as fast as possible.

On the manual v6 4x4 what this the best way to save myself from dropping too much?

Can I leave the transfer case on and just unbolt the cross member and drop both together?

I have already taken the rear and front drive shaft off.

All I really want to do is tip the front of the trans down and swap the throwout bearing/release bearing, then put it back together. Hoping the fingers on the pressure plate are ok.

I think I have all the bolts out, 6 for the trans and 2 for the starter. I just need a way to lower it. I think its going to be too heavy to lower the trans and the transfer case by hand. Maybe if I drop the T case but Id rather not separate them.

That's too heavy, unless may be you're a He-man type. You have to back it off the engine also so it's a matter of pulling and lowering and then vise versa mounting it back. You don't even have a floor jack available? I've had to jack up the engine slightly to get the shaft to line back up just to get it reinstalled, that's with using a cheap trans jack at the same time.

Ive just been researching as much as possible. I want this to go easy, it never is though.

Looks like Timmy the tool guy had the pilot bearing destroyed as it came out. Im hoping thats not the case for me because I need to leave the rest of it alone for now, but I know it got hot before letting go so idk.

The only time I didnt bring my rolling jack with me. I seen theres a harbor freight not too far and Im going to try and go get the cheaper trans jack, which I think is like $160 since this kind of looks like a pain in the ass and its just me doing it.

As far as Ive seen, theres really no tricks to make this easy, you just have to pull it. Hoping everything else is fine and I can just put the throwout bearing in and Ill take care of the rest of the stuff later when Im back.

When you jacked the engine to tilt it did you leave the motor mounts on?

Yeah, and I'm talking about just a slight amount of upward movement on the engine in my experiences with it but I do recall struggling the first clutch job I did trying to line things up without doing that.

Thanks for the heads up. At least this seems like it should be easier than on my bmw e46 on jack stands. Thats probably the worst thing Ive ever had to do on a vehicle, zero room and ton of bell hosing bolts that you have to tape onto the socket with a 4-5 foot extension and thread in by praying to god.

Did your pilot bearing come out on the shaft or did it stay in? I need to avoid that. If I have to pull the cutch and have to put the old one back on Im going to be pissed.

this is definitely a suckass situation

curious about what kind of noticeable sensations you had were having before and during the TO bearing collapsing

it is probably a good practice to also replace that pilot bearing
that is the part that got roached on my rig around 290k-340k

Without the details of why, I had an emergency situation and had to replace the clutch. I did it with bottle jacks and ratchet straps. Sounds sketchy but I had no other choice, the ratchet straps were used to keep it from falling sideways coming down and keep it stable/assist lift going up. the tranny and Xfer case together. I've done this on a '94 Toyota and the Taco.

I had no transportation so I had to WALK to the Autozone at least 4 city blocks away. Maybe it's cheap chineseum, but I guarantee you you will sincerely regret not putting a new clutch in. I put the Autozone clutch, T.O. bearing, pilot bearing, and slave cylinder in in 2018. It's 2025 and still smooth and functional.

You don't really need to jack it, you just need to lift it enough to put blocks under the engine so it doesn't drop too far and damage other parts.

Its been making noise for a bit. It got worse from Moab, was hoping to make it back but I guess not. I just need it to last a little bit, when I get back Ill change the whole clutch setup. I just cant wait a week here for the part to come in. Should have the throw out bearing tomorrow. Just hoping the pilot bearing stays in when I drop the trans.

Ok so just looked at rockauto again and the shipping date is now faster than it was yesterday. No idea why, yesterday said the fastest for the clutch kit was the 27th and now its the 23rd, so I ordered the Aisin kit. Shipping is kind of brutal at $60 but I dont have a choice. Now I need to get a bearing puller. Probably should of ordered a fork now that Im thinking about it, damn.

For the pilot bearing? I've never needed one. I found a socket that fit it kind of snug (not so snug it gets stuck) and an extension, wedge it left right, wiggle wiggle, don't break the needles, it should come out without too much effort. If you must you can rent one.

mines been making a chatter for Over 20k miles now since the ChicagoLand shop replaced the clutch and a rebuilt R150F that input shaft tip was roached... no issues with releasing or shifting yet!
somebody did something wrong jacked up or it is just a bad Toyota dealershop part (TO bearing) or entirely something else

That might be your sign because thats pretty much my same story. I think all the moab dust made it worse because Im missing the inspection plate and I was on a lot of washes and fine dirt out there. The sound of squealing got much worse. I was just hoping to make it back after CO then change everything but I never have it that easy.

Long story short. Picked up 450lb trans jack from habor.

It came out not too bad. Pilot beard race was laying on the fingers of the pressure plate. No ball bearings in sight. Not even one.

Accidentally placed the jack too far forwards and it was tipping the whole time, still got it though.

Race on right and welded solid throw out bearing left
    IMG_7652.jpg

Tried the socket trick to try and get the outer bearing race out of the flywheel. Not even close. Pry bar didnt work.

Made a non sense setup that worked super easy.
