    Hello,

I just started driving the 08 PreRunner w/ a 2.7 and a 5 speed transmission I recently purchased and I think that there may be an issue with the mount(s) for the transmission and / or engine. The transmission shifts smooth and there is no engine vibration to speak of in the vehicle, however there is one thing happening that I'm not sure is supposed to be the way it is.

I usually let the rpm drop to near idle when coming to a stop or I'll try to get the rpm correct with the new gear I'm shifting into before pressing in the clutch to disengage the power from the engine going to the wheels. However once in awhile I'll get caught off guard and push the clutch in when the rpm are higher than we'll say 2k. When this happens I get a jolt from the engine compartment or down below in the tranny. It's hard for me to say exactly which. However this is the only time that the jolt happens. It does not happen under "hard" acceleration with smooth shifting - I don't accelerate that hard on purpose, but we'll say getting on the freeway for instance. It only happens when, like I said, I push in the clutch when the rpm are higher than ~2k which is just a general idea of what the rpm are when I experience the jolt. I try to avoid it so I haven't done any tests to see exactly what rpm this will happen.

Is there a chance that I need to replace one or more motor mounts or the transmission mounts? The truck has ~100k mi and it used to be a farm vehicle, although underneath it looks great with barely any rust even on the exhaust. I crawled under there today and I didn't see anything unusual, although I'm not a trained mechanic either. Just for reference, are there only two engine mounts and one transmission mount? Any advice will be helpful. Thank you. Have a good day.

Thanks. I looked up rpm hang and yeah that looks like it could be it. It feels funny - but I tested my truck a little today and there's definitely a secure feeling without any real jolts - just not what I'm used to with trucks and cars I've driven in the past. Thank you for the heads up. Have a good day.
