Mine has about 1800 miles and I definitely need to slow down the 1-2 shift when things are cold. Once warmed up it's better.

Interesting, ty for chiming in. Seems like coarseness seems “normal”. I have few other issues with it. Most manuals have some sort of issue here and there. My m3 wouldn’t go into 2nd cold… my c5 vette sometimes wouldn’t go into 1st without going into 4th first every 10th time due to non lined up syncros…

I am, I’m not even gently on it. I’ve smoked it twice doing stupid things. It’s definitely been through a lot. The throw out bearing sounds like a supercharger but the plate is still holding and the bearing hasn’t given up on me yet lol

Toyota shouldn’t put the same rear gear oil in the rear axle as the MT fluid in the MT. Highly doubt they do that, they call out different fluids in the owner’s manual.

Pretty much any GL4 75W-85 to 75W-90 will work absolutely fine. The notchy feel is mostly the transmission. I’ve had stock fill, Motorcraft XTM5QS, and Ravenol synthetic blend. They all felt like improvements initially but it wears off after a bit. Like any manual, it’s a lot more smooth when it’s warm.
