my commitment to fixing things may not be for everyone, but i felt exactly the same way when i got the truck so i invested myself to fix it all and make it solid and direct. my mission is accomplished, but it was a helluva lot of work to get it right. perfectly rewarding, but some may prefer to find what they seek off the showroom floor... although i don't believe that's actually available.

I'm speaking from the position of having driven my 2016 MT for over 95,000 Miles - AND - This being my 5th Toyota Pickup with an MT (Started with an 82). Iniitally there was a problem with the transmission, after a long run you could not get it OUT OF GEAR. This was a simple, TSB, mod made by the dealer...It's been smooth as silk since then. Just a word about clutches.
A friend of mine is still driving my 2001 with over 240,000 miles on the -Original Clutch-. If you use a clutch properly - they will last ! I have Zero objections to the way my trucks MT operates. If you are having issues - Get a second opionion to determine whether the problem is with the truck - or the driver :) Clay

minor, TRD skid plate, front recovery points, Regken mud flaps, rear diff breather, AC drain pipe extended. Upgraded sound with active sub woofer, tonneau cover, CB radio.
Totally agree. The way this manual transmission designed and built are pretty much prfct, shifts are smooth and clutch work are seamless!

Reading all this makes me feel good. Like a few others, I bought mine without a test drive for the MT. Having driven jeeps for 20 years, with the large throws on those, this will be easy. I will say this-my last Wrangler, an '06, I got almost 200k miles on the clutch. That was the last year of the straight 6 engines, those things were bomb proof.
My vehicle after that was a Compass, which was about as vanilla as it gets. I decided I wanted a Tacoma when it came time to upgrade, and did that Friday. Picking it up Monday afternoon, and getting back into the MT world!!!
As an aside, I had read somewhere that the EPA is forcing trucks to eliminate the MT, due to their regulations. Without that auto stop/start thing (I HATE that), they are making a big deal out of the MT running all the time (even though, I believe, you can turn off the auto start thing on most vehicles). Not sure if thats a fact or not, but I dont think we will be seeing too many more iterations of this truck with the MT. Which is too bad-so much fun to drive!! I cant wait to finally get mine on Monday and have the opportunity to drive it!

There is no doubt the MT is an endangered transmission, but I think even the automatics are on borrowed time. I think the cvt systems will take over.

I think the decline of M/T is not due to government regs but consumer preference for a do everything for you A/T.

I’m going to guess your manual experience doesn’t extend beyond video game controllers.
