It's already here in some places. Norway for sure. In my province, 10% of car sales are electric or plug in hybrid. The writing is on the wall and can't come soon enough. $6.60 a gallon is killing me, and very few people I know are NOT going electric for their on order or next vehicle.
Manuals will die with internal combustion, simple as that. There is no need in an electric vehicle.
There will be some hold outs, or applications for gasoline powered vehicles, but not for 90% of the driving that people do.

As far as a trade in with a manual, dealers here don't even want the truck if over 5 years unless its mint with low miles.

If you guys look past the Tacoma and look at what other brand models are selling, you'll realize there IS going to be a high resale value for manuals. Look at older BMW's, Porsche's, and other exotics. They are fetching higher prices than their automatic counterparts.
It reduces the buying pool, but that buying pool that's left is willing to pay a premium for it. It's a choice we make. Sell fast but cheaper, or sell later but get more.

Why doesn't Toyota charge more for a manual then?

    Easy:
    - it is cheaper to make,
    - Demands a Lower warranty reserve,
    - etc.

The Overall Margin, I am sure is close to identical in both gearbox options.

They would make more* but for the fleet mpg requirement - which BTW is a bit distorted by the method of measurement. I (and many here) consistently get better mpg than epa rating with the manual gearbox.

From the sounds of it I do not believe this is the case with the automatic...

    * market does play a part. Maybe a few % more… I do not mean they’d make 50% total prod in a manual.

    * there are many posts of AT tacoma owners saying how they wanted a manual but we’re not able to find one to buy and settled for the Auto.

    - I doubt there are any posts anywhere from owners saying that they were forced into buying a manual despite them really, really wanting an automatic.

    - And if there were someone 'stuck' with a manual gearbox, I am sure there would be several people willing to buy, trade with them within the hour. (As we’ve seen..)

Because it's not expensive to make. We're not talking brand new. Look at older BMW's like E30, E36, E46 M3's for example. They are fetching thousands above their automatic counterparts even though they were selling cheaper than their automatics when brand new. Go to Hagerty or other specialty car selling sites, all older manuals are selling more than their automatics.

What I don’t understand is why so many on TW get so stressed out about someone else’s opinion they don’t agree with. Chill people, it will only lead to a stress ulcer and an early grave. What’s that old saying, “Opinions are like……”?

How many of you have seen a "auto to manual tranny swap"? To put that into perspective, how many have seen a manual to auto tranny swap?

Never said ranch. Even the tundra would not be a good choice for that. Thats why they use 3/4 and 1 ton and even bigger than that. When i mean work truck I mean using it to its ability. Not just using it the same as I would use an accord.

Correction, it's not a hauling truck. Here in California with the high gas prices, I see Tacoma's everywhere that are work trucks for several companies. From electric companies, landscaping, cable companies, gardeners, pool cleaners, etc. I have a dash cam and I can bet that in my 45 minute drive to work it will capture at least 3-5 "work" Tacomas. (stock, company logo, high bedrack with company equipment) But there are plenty of pavement princesses too lol

I never said it was a "pavement princess " truthfully a tacoms gets about a D- on pavement. I've ridden in a colorado, ranger and ridgeline.. all three truly beat tacoma on highway..

The only category tacoma wins at in 2022 is offroad midsized trucking 4x4ing. That's it. From a loyal toyota owner.. The taco I own today is an 07 it has the best engine ever put in a taco. Meshed with the lightest access cab truck. She is crazy at offroading, but a complete pussy when you are hauling cattle across a muddy wagon track

I can only imagine how shitty that task will be in my 3.5...

But the 07 sport is getting a turbo soon. I'm trying to decide on which one

Sorry my bad. You are correct. For light work it's a great truck. I was envisioning you trying to be happy doing load work

I’m an Uber and Lyft driver and use a Kia Soul manual in Pittsburgh.
I also own a 17 Tacoma DCOR manual.
A lot of my passengers in their late teens and twenties know of manuals but never seen anyone drive with one . They also say it seems like too much work just to drive.
