You must have a reading comprehension issue as I'm a holdout as well, however that doesn't change the writing on the wall. As I stated I have a manual Tacoma. And I searched for 4 months when I purchased my C7 Corvette looking a manual convertible after being told by dealer after dealer that they didn't order manuals for inventory as they sat on their lots too long. I finally settled for an auto.

However regardless, whether we prefer them or not, manuals will soon be a thing of the past.

If we get to the point that manual transmissions are no longer an option, people might want what they can’t have.

I personally prefer a manual. That being said, my Tacoma is an automatic. I think as time goes on, fewer and fewer people will know how to drive a manual. I know a lot of young people, even today, that can’t drive a manual.

My other concern would be parts and clutches. Will they still be available down the road, if they are no longer an option in new trucks? I don’t know. I’m not a mechanic and I’m not in the auto parts business, so I’m sure there is someone much more qualified than me, that could respond to that.

All of these are factors that COULD impact resale value, in my personal opinion, for what it is worth….NOTHING!

Too hard to predict as there are too many variables today to determine where it will be in 5-10 years. Buy the one you want and be happy. Worry about the resale when that day comes.

I've just traded my 2016 TRD Off-Road Manual AC in on a 2022 4Runner and the manual had no affect on resale in my opinion. The dealer said there will be a line-up forming to buy it because my truck was in great shape and always serviced at the dealership.
I always got compliments on my Tacoma, and when they discovered it was a MT to boot they were even more impressed by it.

Here’s why a select few love manuals. He’s talking about re-gearing but also explains about the untapped power and control that automatics do not offer. Not only that but gear searching is non existent. You shift when you want to shift. You’re the boss and you’re not hindered by the transmission.

Salesperson to owner. " Not much demand for manual tranny vehicles any more. Probably sit on the lot awhile".
Next day to prospective buyer. "Rare find, Wont be on the lot for long".

If you like to drive, drive what you like.

Auto or manual, condition sells and a clean Tacoma always sells.

How often do we see postings here saying "my clean well cared for Tacoma has been for sale for months with no takers"?

Some here talk like driving a MT is some sort of ancient art form that few on the planet have the mental capability to learn and master. Let's be honest here; you could probably train a fucking monkey to drive one. Which means Millennials probably can learn how to shift and drive one too.

I learned how to drive a manual in about 10 minutes back in the 70's. My Dad was gifting me his 72 VW bug, but it was parked in downtown Atlanta at a repair shop. Bear in mind that I had never attempted to drive a MT up until this day. We drove down there to get it and I hoped in, put it in gear and started bucking and heaving down the road! But after a few grinds and embarrassing stalls, I started to get the feel for it. 10 minutes later I was shifting like a fucking boss! Hell, I even taught my wife to drive a stick back in the 80's and she was terrified to try. Again, she was struggling at first, but a day or two later she had it down and drove that MT Mustang for years.

But back to the OP's question; as time goes on, no doubt that there will be fewer MT's around to buy and fewer folks who have any interest in buying them. So really hard to say how this will drive pricing for them. And factor in the oncoming onslaught of EV's and less ICE's on the road it get's even tougher to predict.

Lack of interest in MTs seem to be a north american thing. Did quite a bit of traveling in Europe pre covid and MTs are still very popular there. One vehicle of note was a late model Mercedes limo that picked us up in Italy. Six speed MT. Very few vehicles we rode in were Autos.

to be fair if it was a Nissan Frontier, that is stilla good vehicle from them, it does not have a CVT and the old model is based on the 13+year design. while the new one is basically the same frame and powertrain with new body.

Completely new powertrain but sure it's exactly the same.

Granted the 3.8 and the nine speed were available in the old truck during its last year of production

I’ve been buying and selling cars now for quite some time.
Facts: down the road MT vehicles (both cars and trucks) will appreciate rapidly- especially clean examples.
Don’t believe me? Go take a look at the older MT tuner vehicles fetching 100k+.

A great buy right now? A corvette with an MT. They just discontinued those on corvettes recently.
People WILL pay a hefty premium to get one, you can take that to the bank. There will be plenty of clean tacomas for sale, mostly automatic. If you have a clean/ low mileage manual tacoma you better believe the premium will be high- and someone will pay it.
