The other aspect, that seems to be missing in this discussion, is rear wheel power. You'll find a difference of 10-12% more loss from spec crank bhp to rwp between an auto and a manual. Top-gear torque converter lock-ups lessen that some, but how often are you locked up in top gear on these over-drive transmissions. Apparently not often based on all the complaints listed. I'm already giving up 20-28% power to altitude here in the mountains, not really interested in giving up another 10% or so. By the way, this is why its not uncommon to see manual transmission Tacos passing Tundras going up the passes. The weight to power ratios on these rigs are really close these days, so the 10-12% gain of the manual shows up.

First gen auto locks up at 47 mph which gives about 1500 rpm. Third gen locks up in 4, 5, and 6th. So, it should lock up before 34 mph (perhaps as low as 23 mph).

I drive a stick BMW 3-Series wagon as my company vehicle and love it. Prior to that I have had other stick cars. I test drove a manual Tacoma recently and was not impressed. The stick was long for me and the throws much longer than I am used to. I found shifting to be rather a chore in the Tacoma and will order an automatic when the time comes.

I am not so sure that the inferior gas mileage for the stick shift per sticker is reflected in real life.

A little of this and a little of that.
A question for the Canadian Tacoma owners; were all 2nd gen DCSB's only available with the manual transmission?

that what I was thinking. I haven't tried it yet but I have a feeling I will be unhappy with it.
After all I wasn't happy with the factory shifter in a STI and had to switch to short throw. Likely wont be happy with this then.

This is very knowledgeable dealer. I asked my local dealership why the manual didn't have push button start and he could not give me a solid answer.

I have heard a few people on this forum how sales people tell them the manual isn't even available. If I am looking at a Tacoma and I get one of those sales people I will just plain tell them "Hey, I want someone who knows their job. You don't.". It was funny how when I tested a Tacoma I had to explain all the features to the salesman after he tried to pull some fast ones on me and exaggerate the features. At the end of the test ride he was asking me questions. I get that the salespeople don't need to know as much about the vehicle as Mike "Seatbelt Bracket" Sweers, but they should know the basic bullet points of the truck.

Those with manual tranny, what are you reving at during highway speeds? In the video he says he is reving at 2400 RPM going 70 mph (he says 113 km/hr) in 6th gear.

Curious of this as well ^^^ also has anyone thought about regearing eventually? The 6th gear would be too tall for me with 33's but 1st would become a granny gear with 4.88's.

I have 285/70R17 and 6 gear does just fine. I barely noticed a difference after I changed the tires. This is a 2015 but I don't think they change the gear ratios that much.
