Talked to a Toyota sales person today and he told me that manual transmissions will not be available in a few years. Now the other side of the story is this dealership has the worst reveiws in my area and this sales person has lied to me before. I was also told you can not special order a truck is that true? He said they had to find one at another dealer. I don't trust him as far as I can throw him though. I called this dealership to see if I could remotely get a honest answer.

Salesman should have tipped you off.

He doesn't know anything about manufacturing.

    1. He may be right about manual transmissions and that makes me a sad panda. I hope by that time I am a millionaire and I can afford a chauffeur because driving myself around will no longer bring me any joy. Either that or I will switch to two wheeled smile machines full time.

    2. Bullshit. The dealer can order you the exact truck you want. They do it all the time. However, you will not get much if any discount on it and you have to wait.

    3. Playing the waiting game for them to find one can be hit or miss. Depending on the dealer's reputation with other dealers they may not be able to convince anyone to give up a truck, especially if it is a configuration that sells well. You also won't be getting the best deal as they will likely have to sweeten the trade deal by offering more money to the other dealer, or trading them a more valuable truck that is on their lot.

    4. Find another dealer.

Moral of the story, don't listen to a damn thing a dealership tells you.

Dealers can't order anything you want.

Not with Toyota, anyway. The mothership controls all. Custom configurations are not possible.

Let me rephrase then. They can REQUEST a specific configuration with no guarantee. I'm pretty sure they also know what the are being shipped well before it is delivered and can allocate it to you.

If they request it, there's no point in doing so except a dog and pony show for a customer.

Literally zero customizing available. Anything done outside of what Toyota already allows for configurations would be custom stuff once the truck lands in port or at the individual dealer.

I'm not talking about getting a Manual V6 DCLB (Doesn't exist). I'm talking about options.

They are, but they are not unicorns. Expand your search radius. I know of at least 5 within 250 miles of me, and I know at least 2 dealers are getting 1 or more in within the next month. If the MT is not a big seller in your area you might get a good deal on one, even if it hasn't arrived yet providing it isn't allocated.

Only allowed in certain configs, so it's possible to be eradicated if it's a weak seller - but I wouldn't listen to a salesman talking about it.

    They're bullshitters for a living.

The regular cab was killed off, and so were 5 lug trucks.. so Toyota making substantial moves isn't unheard of - and those were changes just made in the last 5 years.

I ordered my manual trans from my local dealer. Basicly they put in a request with Toyota and wait for the allocation. I waited 3 months and it was worth it. They want to sell you what they can get the fastest so they can take your money and get a commission. I think you will have more success in getting your manual with a dealership that is moving the tacos.

Ya, lot is always first, then what they can get from another dealer. Again it's how quick they get you in that new vehicle and sale finalized.

Out of curiosity I just went to Toyota website and a auto trans is $2240 more than a manual.

Wow. I knew it used to be ~$1000 but damn I didn't realize it was that much! I never bothered to look.
