There isn’t, you’re right the 2G and 3G are pretty close. We could all build what we think is the perfect truck from scratch, and I’ll bet when it is all finished there would be things we wish we could change. I am sure the 4G will be fine truck, would do most of the things I need it to do, just not crazy how they specced it, wasn’t crazy how the specced the 3G either. It is what is as they say.

The Tacoma is a compromise truck that does nothing well, but still love the damn little thing.

It does one thing way better than all the domestic vehicles I've ever owned........it's reliable. Oh yeah, none of those were that at all.

I had completely forgotten about them! I was sitting here thinking..you know, maybe ~$15-20k could/would be worth it to have a modern diesel under the hood, solving one of the bigger gripes; I mean hell, I had been considering a jump to 4G if they had made it sweet enough, and that would have hit me almost as hard. But either my memory is bad, or they had a slight price increase since the..pre..times. Yeesh.

That was the main thing my dirt bike buds were complaining about their domestics, we had all of the big 3 in the staging area, all the repairs they have to make to keep them going, even with brand new trucks there is always some major failure point…like what do you buy??? And none of them are exactly cheap anymore either, pick your poison I guess.

Then they turned to me “Ok Toyota guy…what do you think”

Ohhhh….they are all crap. My 1st Gen has very long list of repairs over the years, Toyotas aren’t infallible. Even my newish truck that just turned 48K mikes already needed $500 worth of warranty work (belt tensioner pulley)

If it has breasticles or wheels it is going give a trouble! :D

I could see $15-20K, the new engine we had put in my ‘99 Taco was $16K when everything was said and done. Sure it has a fresh engine in it, but honestly doesn’t feel all that different than the old tired one it replaced. Other than it being quieter, I can’t tell a different power wise.

Diesel swaps start at $35K now…

    https://www.dieseltoys.com/2016-2023-tacoma

Just not worth it unless you have money to burn. So basically just a novelty vehicle at that point since it pretty much blows the inexpensive basic no nonsense truck idea clear out of the water. A diesel bare bones Taco at $35-40K makes sense to me. $70-80K it does not.

Australia gets the very truck I seek. The WorkMate, once you convert the currency is about that much. Just needs a manual.

When I bought my 2017 SR Utility Package, Access Cab, 4x4 MT, I was shopping for the least expensive, new, 4x4 pickup. The Tacoma was the least expensive, so I bought it. Little did I know I was also buying such a great vehicle !!

That is the other thing I wanted, the rear seat delete since I use it for storage, but couldn’t get with the V6, needed that for the extra tow capacity for a cargo/camp trailer.

The only time I wish I had an auto is when I'm descending a ledge or some type of steep obstacle. Sometimes I apply too much brake and I stall the engine, but I am getting better.

On the flipside, though, I truly believe my manual makes me a better off-road driver. I watch people in auto's and I think, "How boring."

Some butthole just ran into my wife’s Jeep while starting on a light on a hill because he never learned how to let off the brake and engage a clutch on a grade. Was driving a brand new Integra with the temp plates still on it. Tried to say she bumped him until he realized she had a dashcam.

I think MTs are a menace now since no one knows how to drive one.

That sucks but bad drivers use all types of transmissions. I would rather more people drive manuals so they stop f'ing around with their phones or whatever else that is more important than driving. Or eliminate driving all together, people are getting less and less able to do many things, driving seems to be at the top of the list, manual or not.

Cities and big towns having reasonable trains and bike infrastructure mean fewer drivers on the road.

Years ago broke my right clavicle, shifted with my left hand for 6 weeks. That training comes in awful handy now :) or used to, (only drive my manual truck about once a week currently :p :D)

Tore the labrum in my right shoulder. Was a good 6 or so weeks shifting with the left hand in my old 6spd Audi. Good times and good training for commuting with coffee.

Thats because only 2.0% knows how to drive here. In Eu/Asia/Africa most cars are still manual.. Know why? because no one pays over 50K there in cars, most people buy used cars. Actually not 50K, new Tacoma is what over 50K xD?

Don't get me wrong i myself bought 2023 V6 but that's because I am young and need to build credit, also my family can also use this truck so win win for whole family.
