Aisin transmissions are very popular and have performance parts available . As for the Torque converter, you can have converters specifically designed and built to your specs

Yup! The stuff turned acidic after a couple years. It was just better to stick with standard ethylene glycol.

It just depends on history and the materials used inside.

There's nothing wrong with this automatic. It just needs some miles to learn your driving habits. I've had no issues even towing with mine. Imo, toyota did a fine job matching this transmission to the engines power band...its always in the right gear, super smooth, and plenty enough power for my needs. I'm beginning to think people that complain about the 2020 or later tacoma auto's are with trolls, or are expecting what these vehicles are not.

I have a manual trans on my 2016 TRD Sport. If you keep with the automatic, you’ll probable need to use something like Orange Virus (?) tuning to get better performance, especially the trans. That may require premium fuel. The gears are 3:90 in the auto and 4:30 in the manual. I love my manual and have no complaints, although I’d love another 200-300 hp above stock. :) I’m in my 70s, but for me, manual all the way.

And easier to rebuild a manual FWIW if the time comes.

RA60 had a flawed design that led to many throw out bearing issues. Currently Tacoma is geared a little bit lower at the bottom and a little bit higher at the top. The current RC62F also has double overdrive.

I don't have any issue like that. I rarely even go into the 3k rpm range except towing up hills in S5...plenty enough torque around 2200 rpm. Transmission is matched as well as my tundra 4.7 v8's was....just the tacoma has more overdrive ability.

Bit the bullet today and ordered a Voodoo Blue TRD Sport with manual transmission. I'll stop at nothing to cost myself more money with questionable decisions.

Exact same issue. Mine will also sometimes drop to near 1k RPM as I'm actively hitting the gas and then revvs itself into a frenzy.

I've been driving stick for 36 years including 20 yrs spent as a diesel truck mechanic where everything was manual trans at that time.

Drove my 2016 2.7/5MT for awhile before reading the dumb shit inexperienced MT drivers were complaining about on here. It goes with many things these days. It can't possibly be my fault, must be the truck. If you know how to drive stick you'll love it. If not keep practicing.

You made a good choice. Voodoo Blue was the color I wanted more than anything. COVID screwed that up because production had stopped and they had no timeline on anything. Dealer scoured other dealerships and everything and could not come up with one that was a sport premium 6MT.

American manufacturers started using engine oil and ATF in manuals in the mid 70's or trying to get better mileage. The Govt was pushing for better fuel economy and lower emissions and the only tech the manufacturers had was ported vacuum switches and relays...
"Computer" and "carburetor" two words that should have never been used in the same sentence. :puke:

They say money can't buy happiness -- but it can buy horsepower which is almost the same thing!

You did all right, the Barcelona Red is a beautiful color, it looks expensive and classy.

Was tempted but in person Barcelona lacks the punch it has online. Pictures had me thinking it'd be red with a metallic orange glow and in person it was more just plain red.

Yeah they're super hard to come by. Dealer was telling me there are 8 Voodoo TRD Sport access cabs in the US and 6 of those are still on order.

Hoping it'll be 3ish months until I can be driving the newbie, but won't know for sure until Toyota accepts the order.

Voodoo is as punchy as it gets. Only thing close is the OG Inferno

Glad you pulled the trigger. You’ll love driving the truck

My Inferno looks all sorts of different colors depending on the light.
