When TF did I become such an inept, helpless person? I can't get the map light bulbs out. Did I not notice the onset of dementia or something? Is there a trick to getting them out? Mine are so recessed up in there that I can't even get a grip on them with hemostats/forceps/needle holders of various configurations. Help. You'd think a man could do something as easy as this without help:

And tell me that you will come and visit me in the nursing home. At least up until the time I no longer recognize you, okay?

Just get packaging tape and fold it around bulb and pull it out.

Just pop down the entire console and the bulb socket just twist out. Console just pops down with a good pull.

GENIUS! Thanks! Yes, out of frustration I did just that. It's amazing what the right procedure and right tools do for simplifying auto repair. Once, I rebuilt a Triumph TR-6 transmission with only a Craftsman Christmas starter tool set I got back in the 7th grade. Yes, you can get those thick snap rings off the mainshaft with a couple of Craftsman screwdrivers. Eventually.

    Done. 'Preciate it everyone!

Loop a piece of tape around it, press it, and then pull. Worked like a charm when I replaced the stock bulbs with LEDs.

It's easier to just pull the console off and twist the socket out. It takes about thirty seconds to do that, change the bulbs and replace the console.

Don’t even try to pull it out..I broke the bulb, eventually took the console down(which is super easy), took the broken bulb and socket out, tried to scrape or crush the existing glass out of socket, then screwed up the socket, (now too loose), tried to Gerry rig it, blue the fuse, then tried to order new socket (which is not sold by Toyota sepRate from entire console)...and now need to try wreckers to get an old socket. WTF...so DONT try to pull it out...take the console down and it’s a piece of cake to get at and switch bulbs!
