I'm trying to replace the map light bulbs - the lenses don't look like they pop out to access the bulbs - does the entire trim piece come off? I'd rather not snap any old plastic clips by prying in the wrong spot.

    I've got a 2000, but I suspect the 1st Gens are all the same…

    Thanks

    I didn't realize 2000s had map lights.

Sure you're not talking about the dome light? Is the light assembly above your rear view mirror or behind you on the head liner?

I've got two map lights - on either side of the rearview mirror, and a dome light over the seats. It's an Xtra cab if that helps.
The light from them is pretty worthless, I'd be better off using a lighter. Wait … who uses maps anymore?

Interesting. I have a 98 extra cab and only have the dome light (which Toyota calls a "room light")

Put LEDs in those map lights and they won't be useless any more.

I have a 98' extra cab and have the map lights and the dome light and they can all be set to come on when the door opens which is nice. I'm sure it was probably an option of some sort. Mine has the SR5 package so maybe it came with that?

The map lights (aka Personal Lights) come with a lighting package. My SR5 didn't have it, so I installed one from a 4runner that did, and ran a wire from the dome light for power. The LED's really helped .
