You can use a junk laptop. It's pretty lightweight. I've used win 7 and win 10. The software going to feel like you are running something from 2002. Always use the same usb port. A nice laptop won't really make it much better. Best way to describe it as engineering development software.

So I downloaded the drivers and then mapcal. I have been able to get it set up but when I plug it into the ecu nothing happens. I've tried to do it by the instructions but again, nothing. The instructions are about as clear as mud or I'm completely illiterate, probably the latter of the two. One other note, I saw you said USB, I was under the impression it was a "printer" style cable. That's what is connected to the mapecu3 IIRC. Is that correct? So should it go from a USB on the laptop side to the printer cable on the ecu side or is it a printer style connection on both sides? Please forgive my ignorance here and it has been a while since I've been in there to look at it. Once I got the cable connected to the ecu I rolled the excess up and left it in the glovebox.

Side note: I'm running a hacked version of windows. That may be the issue. I'm gonna go to my shop that installed it and see if they know anything that could help.

I am also going to order a PLX DM-6 gauge this week and try it. I hate seeing that it comes with the same sensor I have now but we'll see what happens.

Yeah that printer cable is a usb. Printer end into ecu and usb to computer. Their instructions are not that easy with install. You might need to try that usb driver install right under the mapcal3.5.1 download. I ran hacked windows too, but mine might have been a better hack. Wouldn't hurt to try it on another computer. Connecting should be just plug in and hit connect button. Might need to update the ecu firmware too. Just save your map before if you have a map.

Thanks. I'll try this as soon as I can get a working AFR. That is another thing I'm fed up with. I get all giddy when I get a new sensor then the shit fails and throws an E8 code within 3-4 weeks. It's ridiculous really. I have $210 invested in sensors alone. Innovate sent me one and it just toasted itself this week. Now they want me to send the entire gauge back. If it comes out it is never going back in. I'm still reading up on the PLX. The people installing them must be doing it wrong. They're getting the same results I am. It's that or the shitty Bosch sensor. Shit is frustrating as hell. I just want a solution without having to deal with frying sensors.

What are you guys talking about with the printer cable end? My MAPECU3 is usb on both ends. The computer end is USB-A like every PC out there. The MAPECU3 end is USB-B, which is the square USB plug.

One end of it has a printer style connector. It's also what Gadget sent me a picture of when I asked what I needed to connect it to a PC. The other end is a standard USB.

It is not the top one for sure. It is a variation on the lower one. Not as wide and not near as many pins.

    That's a DB9 serial port connector.

Oh crap good clarification. Yeah use a USB A to B cable. If you do use serial you need to change your settings to serial

Now that I'm thinking about it, the one connection IS the top square one. I remember now because I had a hell of a time getting my sausage fingers in behind my dash to plug it in. I'll try to take pics of what I have going on sometime later today. Sorry about the confusion. This may be why I'm having issues connecting.

Side note, after researching gauges the most reliable and best reviewed seems to be the AEM UEGO so I ordered one. It'll be here tomorrow. I've given up on the innovate. I also went and looked and my sensor location IS before the cat so I really honestly think it could be the gauge itself.

I should have stopped 2 sensors ago but really like the Innovate gauge itself. I'm an old AEM head from my Honda/Acura days. Their products are pretty good from my experience.

So, I got it connected to my ecu and was able to run a data log. Don't know exactly what I am looking at yet but I have my foot in the door...
