AllenFab Custom Hybrid front bumper and recovery points. Drivetrain lifted 2" in conjunction with a 2" BL. Modified Trail Gear transmission crossmember/skid. Warn Xeon 10K winch. Large left side body mod.
    With the proper setup (a properly-tuned, full-length antenna, in an optimum mounting) and a decent, peaked and tuned CB, you can get out about ten miles or so if the weather is good. Further if the atmospheric conditions are just right. Trouble is, almost none of us run a full length antenna. I expect to get out about 3-4 miles or so with my new 3' antenna, though that will only be on the interstate. The range goes down considerably when in the woods with a lot of trees in the way, or in the hills.

    I'll say it again though, a Cobra 25 is really all you need. it's basically the same as a 29 just paired down to the most useful features and placed in a more convenient form-factor. Unless you're a trucker and need something to screw around with when not driving, the 29 is just overkill, IMHO.:cool:

    Oh, and you can still get out a long, long way with a CB. You just have to get an amplifier. It's illegal, but it's not like the FCC runs around looking for people running amplified CBs to arrest anymore. o_O

    So, I tuned my new antenna tonight. These are the results...

    Radio and equipment: 1990 Cobra 25LTD Classic (peaked and tuned), 9' Firestik Fire Ring coax, Firestik dome mount on the roof with a medium duty spring.

    3' FS Firefly Antenna:

    SWR on Ch1: 1.5
    SWR on Ch40: 1.7
    SWR on Ch20: 1.1 (the needle was actually slightly under that)

    I left it slightly biased toward the lower channels since Ch4 is the default trail channel and I'll probably be down there more often than I am on the upper quarter.

    With the 2' FSII antenna, it was...

    SWR on Ch1: 2.2
    SWR on Ch40: 2.2
    SWR on Ch20: 1.3

    As you can see, one foot more antenna netted me a huge improvement. I should get out a lot further now and it doesn't look too retardedly tall. Still going to be slamming it into a lot more stuff than I did with the 2 footer, but hopefully the firefly is flexible enough to take it. As long as it can take the abuse, I'm extremely happy with the new setup.

    Yep I need to install my new CB this week. Ordered it months ago and forget what model it is, but it's definitely a better unit than my current setup.

    Okay, I was bored and screwing around with paint.net and I came up with this for a possible t-shirt design instead of the front of the stock 2nd gen (which I was never too partial to in the first place :wink:). Needless to say, I like this idea better.
