Just have a couple of thoughts on what I am sure will become a very controversial topic. I have noticed over the past couple of months that the Marketplace had becoming a somewhat hostile environment, especially for new members which is a shame because I was grateful to be welcomed into the TW community and I think everyone should be!

I am absolutely not pointing fingers or saying that we need to disregard rules. The rules are there for a reason and IMO are good ones and I think that if people do not wish to follow them or think they are stupid then they should move along and sell their product elsewhere on the interwebs.

I think it is time for a new rule for the market place that would compliment one already in place. In addition to the following: "DO NOT BASH for sale threads in what you think is a good price to sell an item. PM the OP and give them a suggestion. You have been warned and action will be take action if this happens" I propose that we add other items to PM the OP about. Including but not limited to: "Need a picture" "Need to take item out of the box" "Need a price" basically any suggestion to correct their thread I suggest we handle in a PM.

I will be forthright, I am guilty of making suggestions within the thread and not in a PM. I will change my practice regardless of the status of a rule change. I think that this change would not only make the Marketplace a more friendly area for everyone, but might keep some back and forth banter over the necessity of implementing the suggestion in check, and the thread can always be forwarded to a moderator as seen fit by members.

Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We're working on a system that'll force a pic, a price, and the seller's location for items that call for it (like selling a truck, for example). Honestly most new sellers don't read the rules so the best bet would implementing these via automatic enforcement which is what's planned.

As for the back and forth banter, when they get reported we generally clean the thread up.

Automatically forcing it would be amazing! Thanks!

PMs do not give a sale thread a free bump.

How hard is it to read and follow the rules before making a new sale thread?

It's not hard, and they do give a free bump. It could be argued however that the intention is not always to give a free bump. If that is the intention how about saying "how much is this?" instead of "new a pic per the rules" "gotta have a price this is a for sale thread, read the rules" etc, etc.

Again not pointing fingers :rolleyes:but a recent example of a camper top that was for sale but was still on the truck. Pictues and price were posted but there is a rule about uninstalling items that are for sale. Argument ensued, with valid points being made for leaving it installed including safety of the item, lack of a place to keep it, and inability to transport the item to buyer if uninstalled. All I'm saying is on occasion we can be a little nitpicking and people wouldn't get so pissy about the comments IMO if it were handled in a PM. Everyone is so defensive about their posts (which is a separate issue in and of itself). For all the free bumps I'm not sure if they topper ever sold.

That recent rule was implemented in an attempt to prevent scams like TopGuns, who sold a part before it was taken off his truck, and then couldn't get that part off the truck, screwing the buyer.

No one is arguing the validity of the rules, only conversational and forum etiquette. It sounds like most issues will be automatically resolved in a future forum update anyway so it's all good. It would be hard to scam someone on a topper though if it was being personally delivered (but I do get be rule and conceded validity in the initial post)

@Unchained 5150 if you want to spread the love on the finger pointing you will have to invite the party because remember I'm not pointing fingers :D

It is what it is bro, but it is funny how this post came out right after some ass hat did nothing but break the rules about selling sealed boxes of stuff and punked me off about selling stuff and the rules. And what happened to him? He's long gone and banned, and then boom this post pops up. Let it be known I will always point it out to anyone selling anything that the rules need to be followed to keep TacomaWorld safe for all, and to make it a fun place to be. So I don't give two shits if people point any fingers at me for following rules.

I don't agree with this proposal in the least. Ideally the forum would be self-policing and mods would never step in. That means we need to look out for each other to keep things above board. If you post a product for sale in a thread that violates the rules, you should be called out for it.

I belong to other forums that are much, much more strict about rules. Some force you to be a paying member to sell stuff. I'm glad for the freedom we have here, and I think sellers owe it to all of us to meet a minimum level of service in exchange for the benefit of making money off fellow forum members. I'm glad to see peers calling out those who can't meet even those basic requirements.

Basically, PMs can be ignored by the seller. Posts on the seller's thread, less likely to be ignored.
