I did the whole thing..112 days. At the time I was a pretty muscled up young guy so no one ever messed with me on the trail. You see people, but it's usually for about 10 seconds during the day. If you're at a shelter at night you can choose to keep to yourself or mingle a bit...most everyone I met was harmless...middle aged dentists, Aussies on holiday, old ladies, etc.

I knew I was going into business (have an MBA), I just delayed it a bit because I knew I would never have 112 days again to disappear in the woods.

Sounds like a cool trip Mark, have fun.
But like Wolftaco said beware of the floridians, they are an odd bunch, just go to google and type in "Florida man" and see what pops up.

I did the whole thing straight through in '04. I only took three 0's (no hiking days)...July 2-5 to buy new socks, get drunk and wakeboard with my buddies.

Good book, but I couldn't even finish the movie. I read and saw them after my hike. There's no substitute for doing it, even a long weekend if that's all the time you have. The trail shelter system was designed to have sleep shelters about one full days hike (7-12 miles) apart. A 15-20 miles out and back is great for four days. If you have even a little more time Vermonts Long Trail is great country and can be done in a few weeks.

    Alright here we go:

Day 1: Bryce and I (in the blue) all packed up and leaving boise. Obligatory first stop at an In N Out in utah to appease the cali boy. We got a super late start leaving boise because I had to finish moving out of my house. We rolled into moab at about 11 pm and I drove into the Gemini bridges are and found a cool little spot to camp in.

    Day 2:

Woke up in the morning to beautiful views and the start of a day of an easy day on hells revenge. I wanted to give my buddy a taste of moab so we did the most i conic trail. I was on some shit tires without a rear locker, and we still had to go to miami, so i skipped the hard stuff and just vultured everyone else. Enjoyed a Moab dinner at the Moab brewary, some music at the blupig, and camped in a cool hole in the wall in the sand flats area. While at the campsite bryce got a remider why we dont leave food out, the squirrels ate his food not once but twice, and the second time they literally ate the handle off of his favorite starwars bag. He was very salty.

    Day 3:

We head out from moab in the morning to begin the drive to denver. Nothing too exciting happened, we had some extra time before getting to my friends house so we took a side drive to Leadville which was fun. We plucked around a giant antique shop, and checked out a mining museum. We drove the rest of the way to Denver, after stopping randomly at a cool new brewary "East Bound and Down" in idaho springs, where it continued to snow. We met up with james for a few beers and crashed at a friends house for the night.

    Day 4:

So begins the long drive down to Albuquerque. This marks the start of the portion of the trip where we have no idea what the fuck is going on. I had camped in utah and colorado and had friends there, so I knew what to expect. Things were planned, sleep spots were known...now its all out the window.

About halfway to ABQ im looking at the map and notice Roswell is on the way, and will save driving time the next day. Neither of us had been to Roswell and did not expect to go back to we said fuck it and diverted course to the city of Aliens. During this drive we got bored of music and put on a pod cast. "This american life" and listened to a episode on regrets...long story short this lead to a long feels conversation about life and true happiness. Driving through that barren wasteland of a state, I could see nothing and feel everything.

When rolling through we were surprised to see it was basically a regular city. I was expecting a janky city in the desert and 3 traffic lights but there was like...real stores.

While driving through to find where to camp we see one of the local bars, Peppers, had a sign out front saying there was a party on the patio every Wednesday...it was Wednesday...so we flipped a bitched and headed back to party on the patio.

Comming from a college town, Boise, the demographic was very different. It was all people over 30, and they bounced between country music, pop music, and mexican music. After our poppin night at peppers, we drove out to natl park where we found a cool secluded camp spot. While setting up the beers came out and the rum and cokes got mixed and we started cooking.
