Umm, shocks, steering, links (you should have almost a grand in rod ends alone if using new 1 1/4 heims for the links and 7/8 for steering), wheels tires, hoses for brakes and steering, battery relocation if you go through the inner fender with the shocks, bumps, limit straps, driveshafts, hubs ect.

I have an SAS truck thats not even done with WAY more than $4500 in it.

I haven't seen a Dana 60 front for under a grand, let alone a 60 front and 14 bolt. Super Duty 60s are the cheapest and easiest to find here and they'll cost you more than a grand.

I don't know how you're coming up with 4500 but I'd love to see that recipe

Long travel in more common on the west coast. Deserts and wider trails. More opportunity to go fast.

I've got almost 1g in my 14" kings for my 63 swap. I don't see it either. Unless you don't count the cost of raw materials and are making all your own brackets and such. Plus like you've been saying about the ancillary details like using big one ton brakes up need to upgrade the rest of the braking system or it won't keep up. Yadda yadda yadda.

you are adding a bunch of stuff that isnt part of "sas" wheels and tires are generally part of what you have. you are also assuming you go 4/3 link which then that means coilovers. that will add up quick.. leafs are cheap. it all depends on your end goals. but you can do a sas on the cheap.
I got a killer deal on a clist add for my axles. but i see the "king pin unicorn" axles for like 3500 bucks, and superduty for under a grand normally.
again, it all depends on what your end goals are. you dont need 1k shocks lol. you can get by with cheaper ones. i did mine on the cheap. works well. maybe later i will go down the link/coilover setup, but eh, for a rock cralwer it works geat.

That’s cool. I like the idea someone threw out of the steering connection to the spindle being bolt on so it’s like a “fuse”, so that fails and nothing worse. Then just carry spares.

This seems to be the norm for Marlin Crawler products. Hopefully they get motivated to start manufacturing for the consumer soon.

We're talking about a 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma. Most people aren't going to put leafs and the cheapest parts available on that. There's all sorts of cheap ways to build cheap rigs. But that's not really what we're talking about here. The OP is wheeling with guys like Wyatt from RST. That's the sort of thing we should be comparing to. that means links, coilovers and at least hydro assist steering. And I don't think anyone is going SAS to keep the same wheels and tires they have IFS so yeah I'd say its valid to include that in the cost.

Not to mention, if your axles have a different bolt pattern, you have to switch wheels anyway

Which is every won ton. Unless you drop the coin to change the hubs for correct bolt pattern.

Front SD 60's are $250-$350 all day by me. A solid axle swap is all about being patient, finding deals and doing the work yourself. Those three things can result in a very affordable SAS.

Don't get caught up in the hype of links and coilovers. There's nothing wrong with leafs and good old fashioned Bilstein shocks for recreational wheeling. Hell, the guy that won the KOH stock class this year was a mini truck on leafs (and race shocks admittedly) all the way around competing against all the new, more powerful, solid axle Jeep products that were on links and coilovers.

Agreed, I have done a few SAS. Right now doing one to a 97 Suburban and just picked this up for $500 bucks. Hunting for a front axle now. Going big on this build. Going to run some 40s.

The axles are generally the cheap part. It's everything else that adds up. I have a SAS truck too, I'm not unfamiliar with the money that went into it.

Here in CA the axles are the expensive part. Few brackets, shocks, brake lines, springs and a drive shaft are all part of it, but I don't think it is all terribly expensive.
