I am in research mode only issue I have is the highest gear ratio offered for the Tundy diffs is 4.88s I would like to run 5.29s. Also have to run ARB lockers can't get a luchbox for the rear so that's $$$$$ Also it's about 6g for a complete motor, trans, tcase, harness and ecu set up from a 70 series

I've been researching swapping in a tundra front diff for a while now but I also would need 5.29s. Nitro has had this posted on their site for a few months now. .... https://www.nitro-gear.com/Toyota-9-CS-10-5-Nitro-Gear-Package-p/gptundra5.7-5.29.htm

Wish I knew. About 6 months ago, I had it all worked out. I found one at a local junk yard for $250, went to buy it so I could physically put it in place and see how it would fit and it was gone once I got up there so i still don't know. I was gonna do a ECGS D60 mid section rear then realized I can't get 5.29s for that axle to pair with the tundra front so for now its the 8.4" rear with 5.29s, Detriot and Nitro chromoly shafts. The 9.5" front would be a pretty bulletproof setup staying IFS.

I've been looking hard at the new 8.75 rear out of the 3rd gen Tacomas. Supposed to be a lot beefier, theyre available without the elocker (so you can run an ARB) Gears go up to 5.29 and I'm guessing its pretty much a straight bolt up to a 2nd Gen. It's whats in the OPs truck obviously. I've found the nonelocker models in the junk yard for about $1k.

Manual trans or the TRD offroad/pro are the only ones with the 8.7. The manual trans sr5/sports are the ones w/out the e-locker obviously

Sweet that makes it much more appealing now!!!!

Well at least I am not the only crazy that has been thinking this over. Like you I need to know the width of the front assembly now. Also if I got with the RCLT I would have to figure out some custom axles with a tundy inner and taco outer joints, well even without the RCLT I would need to figure that out.

I am hoping that guy swapping the 5.7 into the tacoma will be able to get a close measurement for me. But the wrecked tundy he got the front diff and extension housing are pretty thrashed so he may not be able to get an accurate measurement.
